Ham Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Some of us spend a fair amount of time outdoors. Hopefully, most of us are using sunscreen MOST of the time, but we all miss a spot or two or fail to re-apply or get so busy fishing that we never stop to apply sunscreen. My advice , Use sunscreen, but if you forget your unscreen or stay longer than you planned or whatever and turn a couple of shades of pink, you may want to try a product I've been using this year. I've had great results from the Equate version of a Banana Boat product called " Aloe After Sun Lotion". This product seems to help turn things around pretty quickly ; I'm noticibly less pink and with less pain almost immediately. Granted, I haven't cooked myself lobster red applied this and gone back to shockingly caucasian in 30 seconds, but it's pretty good stuff. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. jdmidwest Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Toss some vinegar on it, it cools and tans the burn. Unfortunately, I have had to use it from time to time on a burn. You smell like an ole douche, but it really helps and is something most people keep around the house. gramps50 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 When I start turning pink I am already burned and sometimes to a crisp, I'm a slow learner. :-) I have found threw the years that the best way to deal with sunburn is to run tepid water over it to take the heat out of it, you can also sit in a tub of tepid water. Do not apply any of the lotions until the heat has left or you will trap the heat in and make it worse. When the heat is gone, the skin is back to normal temp, you can then apply the lotions for the dry skin that will follow. Since I started doing this it takes way less time to recover from a sunburn. The best thing is use sunblock but we all forget to do it I know I do.
moguy1973 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 This is why I'm slowly turning over to light weight pants and long sleeve light weight fishing shirts that have SPF50 built into them. I'd rather be a little warm than be crispy toasty burnt. I also wear a wide brimmed fishing hat. I'm extremely fair skinned so it doesn't take much for me to look like a lobster. I just wish someone sold a more affordable fishing outfit. The price they charge for the Columbia stuff is ridiculous, and las time I was at BPS their line never had my size in the colors I wanted, and even their line isn't real cheap. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Old plug Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I agree 1000 percent with Jim. I have 3 nylon long sleaze fishing shirts that I bought a few years ago at Wallmart for about 15- 20 bucks as I recall. I do not go out on the lake in warmer months without one on. To me thy feel like a a second skin. I also have 4 of those wide brim hats. They are the vented kind in light colors with snap up sides. I wear them just about everywhere. The shirts I wear also for work in the garden. Even though it is a primary shade garden it gets enough sun to give you a burn in part of it. The fishing type shirts are and hats keep you a lot more comfortable doing that as well. I spend about 4 hours a day every day in the garden that covers our entire lake front lot. We have two plant collections( about 100 hosta plants and numerous coral bell plants) plus a lot of other things that keep me busy several hours a day. I am so thankful my boat is sitting in my dock right at the end if the yard so in manage to fish also most days. The shirts have taken a lot of abuse and have held up better than cotton.
id10t Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Wally World now has a full line of Berkley fish wear Shirts, Pants/zip shorts etc. 17.95 for each 19.95 for xtra sizes. Very similar to the clothing Academy sells. I know this sounds crazy but if you have an Academy you can get Columbia, Under Armor and the Magellan line really cheap. You have to stop in often and check the sales racks. It is really random but I have paid as little as 2.88 cents for all three lines. They start marking things down at 19.88 then drop to 14.88, 9.88, 4.88 and then 2.88. I agree 1000 percent with Jim. Old plug Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Yeah I have looked at the shirts in Wally World. I am not for those bright colors. Mine are very light tan and one is canvas green. I noticed also that those shirts were 100 percent gingham material. I was told they would fall apart pretty fast.
Old plug Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I posted the above just a short while ago. I based that on s What the dear wife told me while we were in the store. After I posted it I looked up gingham and it turns out it was a strong weave. SOOOO I would have to say the wife did not want me to buy another fishing shirt and took advantage of my ignorance to bamboozle me. But I still did not like the sort of sissy colors and would not have bought one anyway.
