Quillback Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Glad to see Jesse realized the world wasn't going to end. This whole thing was way, way overblown.

My wife gets news from Chinese news papers all the time and this story made it to America. Apparently someone dumped 5000 pigs in the river that runs thru Shanghai. I bet it smelled nice! Anyway she explained what really happend. There was a ring going on where people would gather the pigs who died before they were slaughtered and sold them to restaurants at a discount. Imagine that. Well they got busted and got a huge jail sentence, and paid huge fines. Some of their competitors decided it was too risky and dumped their "stock" in the river. Note to self: When visiting China, do not order pork items from the menu.
Guest Brian B. Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Part of the problem is she is feeding right into the nonsense.. I do feel like she is being over- persecuted.. The whole thing is so rediculous. Most people have prejudices- that is the truth... Period.. Deal with it.. The prejudices I was raised with I fought against.. But alas.. Mom+Pops were correct I have found.. So that makes me a racist you say?.... Mmmm.... Okay... So what... It is still a free country yes? Paula needs to stop genuflexing and bow up- twll them all to "lick 'em".. Well... She's a chick so that wouldn't work... But you get the point. Last I checked... I lived in America- my name is Brian.. I am prejudiced.. I have learned it in life.. Kind of like Paula did when she did when she had a pistol held to her head.. You ask me- she has the right to say fligger if she da-- well pleases.
Al Agnew Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 If you grew up in a small Ozark town, you were gonna be exposed to racism. Black people were pretty scarce in the Ozarks. In my high school, there was one black girl back when I was there in the late 60s. Everybody treated her okay, but she didn't have many friends, that's for sure. Almost everybody in my father's generation around town were VERY prejudiced. As a kid, I just believed like everybody else, but I started to question it when I got old enough to realize that most everybody had never even had any interaction with black people. It wasn't until after I graduated from high school in 1970 that the local junior college recruited its first black basketball player. He was from Chicago, and he was good enough that the grumblings about recruiting him eventually subsided when they won a lot of games. When I left home to go to college, I finally began to actually spend time with black people, and very quickly realized that they were simply people, some good, some bad, some in between. I can honestly say that after two years of college, I had dropped all the racist attitudes I had as a kid, and started evaluating people for themselves, not their skin color. But before that, you better bet I used the n-word quite a bit.
Quillback Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Deen had a new cookbook coming out, one with healthier recipes. Supposed to be published this fall, it is the #1 seller on Amazon (pre-order). Well the publisher, Ballantine Books, has announced they will not publish the book. Ballantine Books is now on my jackass list. Now we've reached a point where, figuratively speaking, we're burning books?
Mitch f Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Yep, both sets of grandparents were from Paragould, AR and they attended church 3 times a week. My grandmother on my moms side was such a good lady that she absolutely thought God would strike her down on the spot if she cussed or drank alcohol. But the "N" word would roll off her lips so easily. She would never speak however to the only black in town, who was a shoeshine "boy" because they can't be trusted around white women ya know. I remember watching him shine shoes in the barbershop quietly. The men always treated him well because he always knew his place. He had, as they say unforgivable blackness. Another story involves my grandfather back when Joe Louis fought Max Schmeling the second time. My grandfather had a radio back then before anyone else and all the locals gathered around to listen to the fight. My grandfather exclaimed " that Germans gonna kill that Nxxxx" ....well imagine the look of bewilderment on their face when Louis knocked him out in 1 minute! Feathers and Fins Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 Quill, I saw that and where all the others dropped her. I think a lot of it is now skeletons are coming out of closets lining up with lawsuits on her. IF she was racist and its proven in court I can agree with them, but for god sake let her have her days in court first. If she is not guilty than all these sponsors better look out for what skeletons they might have that can come out. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

My grandparents on my mother's side were from Kennett MO, not far from Paragould. Church twice on Sundays and on Wednesday night. No alcohol, cussin' or card playing. My granddad fished occasionally with a black man, he referred to him as "Nxxxx Joe". Attitudes were sure different back in those days. But at least in that regard, we've changed for the better. BTW, Kennett is Cheryl Crowe's hometown.
