Jason Essary Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Didnt want to hijack anyone elses thread. Ok, finally found a nice way to set up a Jika rig. Owner hooks are to thick and to small of an eye. Used gammy's and works fine. BUT....I tank tested the rig after I built it as I have a 100 gallon aquarium filled with fish that are used to me scaring the begebes out of them. Almost every bait I used on it sank to the bottom. Worms, craws, salt craws, etc. In conclusion, unless you have a highy floating soft plastic, I believe the rig is no better than a texas rig. Im sure there are some baits out there that would "stand up" as they are suppose to do with the rig, but Nothing I use on a regular basis looked any different than the good old t-rig. And on top of that, the weight is tied to the hook so there is more chance for the fish to shake the hook. So, anyone have any better suggestions on making a better mouse trap. Always looking for a better presentation. Essary Construction - Honest work for honest price Custom Construction and Remodeling Call for free quotes (417)338-6418 http://essarycustomhomes.com/
Quillback Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Thanks for that info Jason. Do you think the Jika may be less snaggy than the t-rig?
motoman Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Good info Jason.......not too different than most shakey head worms. Tank test them and they lay right on the bottom. Boy do these tackle companies have some good marketing guys.:-(
Jason Essary Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 quill, dont think you can get more snag-less than a t-rig. Dont think the jika would be bad, but sure dont think it would be better. gitnby Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Not a Jika rig expert, but I think the rig is designed to allow the bait to move more freely, not necessarily make it stand up. when you shake it or hop it, it does seem to allow the bait to be more natural, if only for a short time. would think it would be great in current, ie. a river or creek
abkeenan Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Jason, The point of the rig is not to standup. Like Quill said the bait floats and moves in a more natural fashion. Secondly, I feel that it comes through cover and rocks better than the good old t-rig. I am sold on it and don't know if I will go back to t-rigging ever again. I never pegged my t-rigs in the past so maybe that is why I favor the Jika. I also think it casts better than a t-rig.
jmes Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I use the rig alot. With the free movement of the baits I seems to get more bites and a better hook up
Members Ndwoods68 Posted June 28, 2013 Members Posted June 28, 2013 New guy here! I love this rig, I make them and drag Biffle Bugs with them! Seemed to me the free motion was similar to the Hardhead designed to drag the bug, call me cheap but 2 hardheads or Chompers brand equivant for 4-5$ is insane!
Pepe Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I have some creatures being tested that have great floatation. If the reports come back positive I will let you know. It remains to be seen if floatation will really make much of a difference.

Best thing about it on TR is the ability to fish it straight down through the cedars. Goes in and comes out better than a jig or TX rig. If you need it to stand up, go to a salt free bait, handpour w/o salt, or a Zman bait. Most of the salted stuff will not stand up.
