I am curious what you all think is the best type and size treble hook on a jigging spoon (1/2 oz to 1 oz). Do you think a dressed hook helps? Is short shank better?

I have had the Mustads and don't care for them as much as the Xcaliber T3's and the Owner dressed trebles. Just IMO.

I generally use a size 4 for jigging spoons in that size range. I fish a bare treble on my jigging spoons, but could see where dressed might help.

if you want to stop loosing fish on your jigging spoons, switch to a #2 or #4 4x eagle claw. this hook will not straighten out, but when you set the hook it goes through bone or whatever, and that puts pretty much an end to bass jumping and throwing the hook out.

Thanks for the baits by the way, I'll for sure give them a try. As for the hooks, a size 4 Death Trap is completely unbeatable. Anyone that is posting another brand has not used one or been poked or cut by one or they would recommend it. Nothing is as sharp, strong, or has a better bend for a jigging spoon. As far as the tail feathers, For whites, yes for other species not so much. I catch more walleye without, and for sure more bass without. The Whites however just love the extra flash.

The Mustad is weak, and the Owner is a cutting point. We have discussed this in previous Blogs and it just cuts to big a hole. I want a needle point hook with a super barb. ie the chemically sharpened Death Trap. The Gamakatsu runs a nice second.

Good Luck

Thanks, guys. I will try those death traps. I have never used them.

I am fooling around with a jigging spoon mold. Hopefully I won't hook myself. LOL

I never heard of the hooks you refer to as Death Trap. Who carries them ??? I am always looking for good hooks for my spoons.

After an earlier suggestion by Bill, I used death traps on my Top Dollar modified baits. They are sticky and surprisingly strong for a light wire hook.
