Al Agnew Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I always seem to find myself wondering where everyone went? I thought this was about a legislative bunch of morons elected in Washington state that thought their constituents were so dumb they need guidance in terminology that they had use since they learned to speak. That these elected official thought themselves so superior that they needed to ignore more pressing problems to aid the citizenry in there daily dialect. It's these kind of "Superior beings" that slow humanity down and contrary to common belief they don't all follow one political thought. There is no two political thoughts actually, there are just two offered. Wayne, come on...they are NOT trying to tell the citizenry what words to use. They are changing the LEGAL language of state statutes that are already on the books, as well as laws that may be passed in the future. I think I've covered why there might be good reasons to do so. They aren't making laws saying that the proper word to use is "fisher" and not "fisherman" and people must do so. They are changing the word in existing statutes and regulations. It costs nothing, only takes some bureaucratic time to find all the gender specific words in the existing laws, some of which probably date back to the 1800s, and change them to gender neutral words.
exiledguide Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 F&F that was my point, the guys who wanted to sign the petition read that and they will think they will save that much tax money even though they don't pay that much in taxes now.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Wayne, come on...they are NOT trying to tell the citizenry what words to use. Al, come on, they are telling people what they will use to be legal. They won't do it for free, but will spend the money to ferret out and reprint every document using the now meaningless words and if they indeed have to go back to the 1800's it won't be cheap. Then the question is what will the people gain for the money spent? Will they gain enough from it to offset the loss of the funds somewhere else? I can't agree with you Al because I think it is petty and meaningless to bow to every chirp from someone who believes they are be treated unfairly in their mind. If this were virtually cost free it would be one thing, but to spend the money they will spend expunging all the state documents and I would assume the other governments will be required to follow suit and change all their county and municipal documents. What do the taxpayers gain? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Wayne, I can agree with you as far as maybe the cost of reprinting every document with a state statute on it, if indeed that's what happens. But what I was disagreeing with you on was the assertion that they are telling people what words to use. I think we've hashed this out more than enough, and I've gotten a couple of complaints about all the political stuff on here, so I'm signing off on this one.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Al, you brought it up so im going to run with it a little.... People changing words is like people complaining about political threads on websites. The PC stuff from politics or even the news or people is ridiculous if a person doesn't want to use them that's fine I can respect it but to complain when others just simply talk the way they talk and then to complain about it IS the problem its all about control of others and that is wrong. The same can be said about a person who opens a thread on a website they KNOW is political or can figure it out in the first post or two. If you don't like something DONT SAY IT! If you don't want to read something DONT OPEN IT! But people need to stop trying to tell other people how to think how to talk or what to post. Use their brains and their feet or fingers! Walk away from people you do not like the way they talk or the words they use. Use your finger and close a thread you don't want to read but stop trying to tell and control other people from talking. Funny yet sad many people who do that are the first to scream about the Amendments and which is violated but seem to always forget the FIRST! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Old plug Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Better yet keep the political stuff OFF a fishing forum.
405z06 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Should I change my avatar? Honestly? Yeah. This isn't the place. I disagree with Obama specifically, and liberals in general, probably as much, or more so than you. But I come here to read about fishing. I usually avoid political discussion at all cost. I have my political sites bookmarked when I want to engage in that type of discussion. My best and most frequent fishing buddy is a big liberal. We more or less disagree about everything when it comes to politics. But we love fishing. Every once in a great while we get into a heated discussion that doesn’t change anyone’s mind, but for the most part we are thinking and talking about fishing when we are together. It works out fine. Political differences does not = personal enemy. Lastly, you are very vocal about your politics, but you type in a manner that makes you look uneducated, to be honest. I’m not talking about getting all school-teacher on you, or criticizing spelling, or diagramming paragraphs. It’s things like adding hyphens unnecessarily, or overusing parentheses, doing a lot of this “….” mid-sentence. Whatever these things are, they are really unorthodox and it just makes it super difficult to read. It’s like a speech impediment, but when typing. I’ve seen a handful of other similar examples on other forums. It’s honestly find it fascinating, how the human mind works. But it tends to make things difficult to read and undermines whatever “serious” point you may be trying to make. If you keep it to fishing, well, it will still be hard to read, but it won’t look so silly and you won’t open yourself up to so much flack.
