Put in at Indian Point at daylight. Fished shallow in the bushes for the first hour. Threw a horney toad at them, this yielded two largies that were close to three pounds. Went from shallow to deep when the sun got up, and got on the best smallmouth fishing in my life. Fishing deep trees, the small jaws were sittin in the tops crunching the jig. Believe me or not but my best five were pushing 19 pounds !!!!! Had three over three, one over four , and a hog that was over five all brown! Just a total blast . Of course all were release full of juice. Really a great bite around the dam area. Had 12 keeps. Those five

Smallies out weighed everything. Set up I was fishing was a football jig on a 7 foot veritas rod . Team lews gold reel locked and loaded with 15 lb seguar invisx. Lews reel really helped to get that bait out there. Seemed they were a bit boat shy. Long cast were imparitive. If you can put up with huge

Waves and hoards of boats , the fishing is great.

You say the fish were sitting in the tops of the trees. So, they were taking it on the fall, or were you working it over the limbs?

Over the limbs , once you cleared the last limb hold on. I was using a double snap working the jig very erraticly over the limbs.

Where do you find those deep trees? Is that a bluff type thing or is it out over pea gravel points?

This is a pretty liberal and informative forum, but that is pretty much asking how much money he has in the bank. A couple of years ago there was some real trouble on the Bull Shoals forum about giving up location and way to much hard earned information. With the pattern described I will guarantee you it was very hard earned with lots of jigs lost. Don't care who you are or what jig you use, you throw it into deep tree tops you will lose plenty, at 2 bucks a pop with the trailers.

He more than earned and paid for those fish taking risks.

A very good pattern has been posted. Use that and try the locations you mentioned, looking for that type of cover and see how you fare.

You get bit and it means you really discovered the same pattern only in a perhaps different location. Something to hang your hat onto.

Wishing you the best and good Luck

Wasn't asking for specific locations just generally. Sorry if it was misconstrued as a specific spot.

No problem, probably my mistake, but I saw he was not jumping back with more info. I probably would not have either. You catch fish like that on that type of a pattern and mum is more than the word.

I will tell you that 2 yrs. ago, Kevin VanDam had a very similar pattern here using crankbait in the tree tops. This time of the year. He was catching them off the secondary points in the deep trees banging that crank. I mean good ones mostly brown. It did not work last year for him and he tried and tried it. May be the deal this year as its pretty much the same presentation as the jig deal working the same fish.

Good Luck
