I have had trouble messing to much with the depth finder when I was younger. They can mislead you a bit because they are no guarantee those fish your looking at will bite. I have fish the same area for 20 yrs. so I just go with my experience. At my age it is the fishing experience I enjoy catching something is secondary.

Old Plug- and at best from what I have experienced, it merely means "fish"- nothing saying they are bass. My bro always says- look at them bass... LOL

I do a lot of precision deep vertical jigging in the wintertime, and I find that the "auto" settings on my trusty Lowrance X25C are perfect for cold water. With two other people in the boat, I can watch all three lures at 60' or 70' and tell someone when they're about to get hit.

Getting the same resolution in WARM water, though, usually requires fiddling with the settings a bit. I wonder why the difference between cold and warm water?

Anyway, I run on "auto" almost all the time also. Works great for me.

It's what's in the water at different temps. Not much in the way of plankton to reflect a signal in the winter (compared to summer).

I can't dance like I used to.

Aha, great point! Thanks!

Thank you for the great feedback. I have a better understanding now. I went out today and noticed more fish suspending in the 20-30 range than in previous weeks when they would be on the bottom. Makes sense!

I have a finder on the helm and the bow of my 20' boat. Terrova trolling motor w/trans in nose. If I run both at the same time will they interfere with each other. Thats what I heard????
