This is the Herbs Dilly buzz spoon, which had a flat rubber skirt.
Living rubber flaps like a flag whereas silicone tucks down until you pause it.
That's good for spinnerbaits but not buzz baits.

It's laying next to a homemade 3/8oz clacker buzz.
If you look close, my trailer hook is rather small.
That's by design, to catch those smaller fish.
It's a #4 round bend treble with the other hooks cut off.
I keep the main hook, which is the one with the flat eye.
Then slide a small chunk of plastic worm or jig trailer to keep it from fouling.
The bigger bass engulf the bait so they're hooked on the big one.

How many times a day is the limit that your ears can take of that sound before they fill up.

That's the sound of hope and anticipation before the next strike.

PS: I love you guys! THAT (pictures) is what I'm talking about! Good picture Trophy. Unlike me, showing, not telling.

Still, I believe buzzbaits are like math: There are innumerable ways to "get" to 1.

Thing is, the fish don't know that. They live in water. They'll hit a crude lure made in 1920 just as easily as a lure with 10 years of research behind it and manufactured with the latest state of the art materials.

I agree with this. I've always wondered if a financially independent guy could ever make it as a professional bass fisherman without sponsorship from a major lure brand? I mean some guy that carves his own lure out of balsa or hickory and paints it with fingernail polish? Could you imagine walking up to the at the winners circle at the Classic with a pair of Carharts and accepting the trophy and claiming you won the tourney on a minnow you made yesterday?

Won't happen.....pretty much the same with golf

I guess squeaks, bubbles and and skirts are all fine but it seems to me hook gap is the most importaint characteristic. Buzz baits and single hook popping bugs are similar in this respect.

Too many buzzbaits by many manufacturers...Some of them just have something magic going on and others will never work as well no matter how much you tweek and tune them. Figure one in three will have that magic from the get go...1 of the other two...will get the magic after you fiddle with it a bit...the other one will be junk...Just the way it goes.

Anyone ever use one of these Little George tailspins? All this talk of old lures reminded me of things I had a long, long time ago. I don't think I ever caught a bass on one, or really knew how to effectively fish them

Steven Kennedy is about the closest you will find. He fishes the BASS Elites with a Nitro Z8 with a 225hp Mercury on the back and a Minnkota Maxxum and no electronics on the bow. It's a boat he won in a PAA touranment. As far as I know, his only sponsor is Kinami baits.
