ollie Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Just a quick question to all on here: when do you do most of your fishing at this time of year? This time of year I normally will stop fishing around 11:00 - noon and then start back up around 6:00 in the evening. Most of my trips are kept short as within 20-30 miles from the house max. on smaller creeks. I will get up super early and get to the creek just as the sun is coming up, but with these hotter summer days I find the fishing is normally better towards night time. I guess I am just looking for a general consensus from everyone. Mitch f Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I don't think you should stop at 11, sometimes that's when the best fishing starts. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Bird Watcher Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 For me it depends on what type of water, what species, and how far from home I am. I've fished from daylight to dark the last three Saturdays, but I was 2.5 hrs from home and fishing deep murky water.
Al Agnew Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 The fish in streams don't care that it's dog days. They're still just as likely to bite in mid-day as at dawn and dusk.
cnr Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I go all day on the stream. In a boat on the lake, not so much.
Ham Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I'm generally making the creek/river smallie trip an ALL DAY affair. Monday, I left the house at 0545 and got home at 2115. Fairly typical of my trips. My lure selection changes through out the day and the bite changes through out the day, but I seldom go too long with out a bite. FWIW, you're seldom going to get concensus here. RSBreth Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Mid-day heat indices of 100+ are just plain uncomfortable to me, but I drink tons of Powerade cut with water 50/50 and just deal with it because it's true - sometimes the best bite of the day on the river is right in the middle of the afternoon.
Guest Brian B. Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 On my strip pits we go pretty much. When we can- I mean going super early makes you both tired and miserable- heck its hot as heck by 9am anymore. We fish structure like we always do- all the usual haunts, but we keep rods on the ready with any lure that casts well at distant scools of. Bass. When they are chasing shad on the pits it's no mystery. It's impossible to miss as a matter. Of fact.
moguy1973 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Caught all my fish lately in the middle of the day. Seems they tend to hang out in shaded cover though. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ollie Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 I have fished all day before that's for sure, but the afternoon gets hot! After getting up super early and then that hot sun beating down on you by noon...... Around here that's when the bikini hatch starts! lol Much easier to just sit in the creek and cool down. I remember as a kid my folks had a boat and we would go out all day until dark. I always hated it because I would see other kids water skiing in the afternoon having fun while I just sat there sweating my a## off and not catching anything. I normally don't have the luxury of going all day anyways with kids and such. Ok, so here's something else, do you seem to catch more in the morning or in the evening this time of year?
