Jack Jones Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 There have been many sprited discussions on here lately. Personally, as a immigrant Missourian (only been here 8 years), I enjoy some of the commentary on local situations and politics. It has educated me and is enjoyable. However, the virtiol I've seen lately, quite frankly, saddens me. Seeing people refer to the leader of this free country with acronyms or otherwise butchering his name, to me, shows a complete lack of patriotism and love for the country. Love him or not, agree or disagree, he is our President and that demands respect. While there seem to be many good people on this forum, and many educated people, some of the folks I've seen commenting on this particular post I would honestly be hesitant to bring around some of my family members because I doubt they would measure up to their standards and because of what I would think the poster would judge about them at first sight. This, too, saddens me. So...while it is important and appropriate to post stories about shootings or other incidents on the river, measured commentary should likely avoid linking it to national events or controversies, and generalizing about the "types" of people who may be involved. That's my 2 cents. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
jdmidwest Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Like most things posted in the news, everyone jumps the gun and persecutes before the facts come out. Unless someone on here has a first hand account and was a witness, nobody really knows what happened. In all accounts, it looked like someone died. There is no fun and games with that. And I am sick and tired of a leadership that brings out racial tension and turmoil in the nation. What happened to all of that job creating he was going to do if re-elected? Guest Brian B. Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Amen JD, amen.. He is worthy of the scorn and dis-respect that he has earned (JJones) (Shovel ready- don't hear that term much anymore, hmm..) Justin's post started it all, we can re-visit it all day long, but that was completely un-acceptable. If we are going to stay off the political stuff we will -all- stay off the political stuff, funny no one minds political commentary when it is pro "O" agenda. If we are going to keep it neutral- keep it neutral.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 22, 2013 Root Admin Posted July 22, 2013 Impossible to keep it neutral but it is somewhat possible to keep it civil.
Buzz Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Gentlemen, The climate on this forum in regards to politics and race has heated up in the last month to the point I'm ready to give some of you "timeouts". Seriously... this has no place on this fishing forum. I've banned politics in the past but let it slide because cooler heads prevailed for a time but I guess it's the heat of summer that's brought out the worse in some of you. Believe me, I don't want to nanny sit the board and nit pic subjects and conversations - I should not have to. But if I have to ban members, new ones or old ones, to solve this issue I guess I may have to. No more cussing. No more acronyms. No more race based topics or posts because no one here has any good answers and no one here can post anything that will do anyone any good in the matter. Thanks Phil. J.D.? Brian B.? Do you two need a timeout? If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 A lot of what is spilling out here is spilling out all over the place. People are sick and tired of the Race Card being played they are tired of all the scandals surround this administration ( what is it 8 now ) they are just getting fed up with the direction the country is going. Most on this site care deeply about this country their families and friends. Also many of us are old enough to remember much better times. It is hard not to get Mad at what you see and hear every day on the news or just going in to buy coffee at Mickey D's in the morning. Our politicians are so out of touch with America it sickening and Phil is right we cant change it here, but come 2014 we can and should if possible. I think most on here have very high morals and ethics and though they may differ they are similar in many aspects. I think most of us on this site were born about 100 years to late. I am starting to think a great many Americans are wishing they were. Who knows the answers but sure seems like more people are wanting answers and simpler times. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 22, 2013 Root Admin Posted July 22, 2013 That's why a lot of people move to Alaska... you do go back at least 50 years or more, living in most places. I do love visiting. it's hard work- a good kind of work. You always have to think and work efficiently because everything you do has meaning. You can't waste- everything is too hard and too expensive to throw away or screw up on. You have to be smart, wise and in good shape. That's why I "visit" - it's tough to do all the time! I am talking about the bush... not Anchorage or the Kenai area. Where I was at there was a store, auto parts place and lumber yard within an hour's drive but most things had to be ordered from Anchorage (a day away). It's still hard there but not as hard as a lot of villages and camps in very remote places. Want simpler times... move to the bush of Alaska. Sorry- off the subject. If's Scott's fault!
John Andrews Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Yes Sir, I am 51 years old, I remember my dad worked, mom was the typical housewife. On his salary, we had plenty. Now my wife and I both work, and sometimes struggle to survive. A perfect example,,,, I had to sell my motorcycle for us to survive on while she recovered from a major operation. Not sure at my age if I'll ever save enough to replace it. For an old biker that was a sad day. Seeing my brothers out there riding is rather depressing. Our way of life these days is a far cry from what we once were as a country. I hope for my kids and grand-daughters sake, this country can make a come back. Heck if I didnt have fishing, I probably be in a mental ward. A lot of what is spilling out here is spilling out all over the place. jdmidwest Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Thanks Phil. J.D.? Brian B.? Do you two need a timeout? I don't need a timeout. When our leaders divide instead of unite, they are the ones that need a timeout. 6 years ago, none of this would have been spoken on here. Our leaders have brought on the partisan crap, the racial crap, and they love it when we are in turmoil. It distracts us from what they are really doing. And the media, social media, and all other junk info makers have melted the minds of many info believing what they say is true.
