Jason R. Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Ive been building a few poppers lately as well- nothing fancy but they catch fishes. http://flyinthesouth.com/
ness Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Yep -- lookin' good, Jason. I see you're of the Stipple School of popperology, like BilletHead. You guys keep raising the bar on me.... John

Ha!- I guess I have been "stippling." Didn't know there was a word for it. Mine don't look near as nice as the others on here but I crank them out pretty fast and I tend to lose them in the weeds/trees pretty often. http://flyinthesouth.com/

BilletHead pointed me to an article about stippling that is worth a read http://www.flytier.com/stippled.pdf. There are some concepts outlined there that are real helpful. John
BilletHead Posted August 30, 2013 Author Posted August 30, 2013 Yea that place, I had already got off to a good start but that place gave me a shot of nitrous oxide. Thanks for passing it on Ness. Good work Jason, BilletHead who is waiting for Nesse's popperistic stippled mind blowing creations. ness Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Oh man, I may have built this up a leetle too much..... Tails on tonight or in the AM. John
ness Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Alright, I got some tails on. I have really been enjoying this. I've always kinda liked doing hand work. Did a lot of models as a kid, tie flies, make rods, whatever. Just haven't gotten into the groove lately. But BilletHead and Flysmallie have inspired me, and I've been fiddling around with cork, balsa and foam. All of these were done with acrylic craft paints or model paint, stippled with whatever (darning needles, drill bits) and coated with an epoxy finish. I'm pretty happy with the results, but I've already got some improvements in mind. Plain old cork: Foam pencil popper: More cork: Foam popper tied diver-style: Teeny popper Cork again: Ho! Nothin fancy. Turning motor lower right -- balsa zip tied on, foam tape to stick 'em into. John
BilletHead Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 Oh yea more hidden talent showing up. Well done young apprentice! hahahaha The possibilities in paint schemes a guy can come up with are endless. The plain cork on the top photo fades from top to bottom nice and the diver/slider that green really pops under the epoxy. Give us more Mr. Ness. I have not messed with any lately. Have too many distractions going on right now.
