Troutnut69 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I was lucky enough to spend the last week out in Wyoming with a great group of guys chasing fishes. Myself and another buddy from Jeff City headed out on the 17th with Cody as our final destination. Neither of us had ever been to that area of the West before so it was all new to us , which always makes for an exciting adventure. We fished 4 different rivers and caught 2 species of cutthroats , rainbows , browns , brookies and mountain whitefish. large foam stonefly patterns with a nymph dropped off the back was the only setup you needed anywhere we fished. To say we had a great time is putting it mildly. For a couple of midwest guys the chance to watch a 16" cutt slam a big stone as it hits the waters surface is pure nirvana! I've got the first installment of the TR up on my blog for anyone interested , probably two more posts coming to finish up the report that I hope to have done by the end of the week. The fishing and scenery get better as we go along..... http://highplainsflyfisher.blogspot.com/ ** Sorry for the lack of a picture or two , I'm having trouble accessing my photo account from work and can't get anything posted**

Terrierman Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 That's a beautiful area. I was just out there too.
Greasy B Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks for the report. The drive out to Wyoming was never too bad, the drive back home is always brutal. Justin Spencer Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I'm ready for the next installment, so far looks like the trip of a lifetime. BilletHead Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Nice report, Man I love that country. Been out there fishing 8 years straight in early August. Missing this year though. Did you visit North Fork Anglers in Cody? We have been friends with Tim the owner and have fished the last five years with him when out there. Met him back here in Missouri when he was my wife's River Helper during casting for recovery. Troutnut69 Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks guys. Terrierman - did you fish while out there?? If so I'm curious as to where... Greasy - You hit the nail on the head with that observation!! Justin - I'll throw another link up when I get the next report done...probably wednesday. One of the best trips I've been on for sure. Billet - Yep... I stopped in the shop several times while out there and got to visit with Tim twice. Like you said , very nice guy and from Missouri as well. We talked about fishing LP and Mill Creek and other streams in the Rolla area. I think he got as excited talking about our Missouri streams as he did about his Wyoming rivers.

Drove up to Double Cabin and spent the day fishing there. Caught my cutthroats on a parachute adams, whiich was a first for me. I knew we were in the right place when the owner of the fly shop that stocked me up that morning showed up mid afternoon. Another day we drove up to Brooks Lake and fished the outlet. That little stream was packed with rainbows and suckers. Caught a few there too and lost a really nice rainbow. It rained hard two evenings while we were there and it blew the Wind River up so didn't get to fish it. I wanted to fish the Snake but it was way big for wading. But just right for a raft trip. It really is beautiful country. This is the alluvial field at Double Cabin. I met a man and his 70 something mother there hunting petrified wood and fossils. She was from the old town of Table Rock Missouri which is now under the lake. Looked down and found a leupold folding knife. Not one of theirs. Anyway, it's a cool place.
