Guest Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Amazing. I lose count after 10. I would find counting every 3 minutes for 4 hours straight boring and mind-numbing. Sounds like a great day of catching fish in any event. Cheers. Thanks Joe D I know its not for everyone, but its still fun to say the least. I just enjoy being out of the office or the house on any given weekend.
Gavin Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 CPA...is my profession...but I don't give advice on my off time...That is a great little rig...saved the day on the G. Nade a couple months ago...lots of fish...but not selective....brown & orange is a great combo....Great write up!
Old plug Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Plug, you're correct. Its not new, but the zman bait on that little jighead is new to me. Its redefined the way that I approach finesse fishing. There's no arguing its effectiveness on small bass. I was looking for a way to catch everything that bites. That's been achieved with a 90% hookup ratio. I do not deal in specific lures on here. But you said 90% hookup rate. Well if you do not have at the very least 90% hook up rate on whatever you use you need some practice either with your rod or with bite recognition. With a little tail like is this lure the z-man might be ok but a bit expensive. But if you have it on any lure that you embed the hook or any that it can get embedded in like the sinko types the hook will not come through the soft stretch plastic.

Its on a jighead with an exposed hook, not texas rigged.
gramps50 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Mine are a little bigger that TrophyFishR I use 7" Zman finesse worms cut in half, I also seem to do better with the end with the pointy tail. When they get tore up around the hook I have cut them off and reused the shorter portion and was still able to catch fish it them. I have green/pumpkin, pumpkin & PB&J and for me the pumpkin works the best but that might be because of the water color where I fish. The little pond where I mainly fish can't have many big fish in it I wouldn't think, it's about an acre in size. I have caught an 18.5" and a couple of 14 & 15" ones. Most are from 9-11" but I don't think it as much the jig as the place. I have some 4" Zero Elastech worms and they don't do as well as the 3.5" ones I cut from the 7' ones, the cut 7" one are fatter and I think that might have something to do with it, the 4" are a lot skinner. The smaller hook Gopher jig heads work better than the same weight with the a larger hook. The bigger hooks seem to get hung up more and I catch more fish on the smaller hooks.
Mitch f Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I suppose you could match the hatch and mimic the stages of fry as they grow, ending with a bigger style in fall. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
gramps50 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I just ordered some of the green pumpkin/orange as there are many bluegill in the pond I fish, also some junebug which should work better in stained water. Also got some JJ Magic to see what that does
Guest Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Gramps, I didn't know they made a 7" zinker. I've got to try that. I think the orange looks like Crawdad, but who knows. As long as they're biting it, I don't care. I've been using loctite super glue gel. The gel isn't nearly as messy as the regular super glue. The gluing process can be a real pain sometimes.

Yep, Superglue can be so much fun!

I think they are called Finesse worms, I get them at Walmart, not a lot of color selection at least at the Walmart's by me. How do you fish it? I cast it out and let it sit of a count of 20 then take the slack out and reel one crank then let it sit for a count of 5-6 then one crank again. Sometimes I will twitch the rod tip several times then take up the slack. At times I will vary that some like a crank or 2 then pause then a crank pause but most of the time the 1st way works best for me.
