Chief Grey Bear Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Once you get into June and through September, could be even as early as May, I don't even call them fronts. I don't think they have any effect on the fish due mainly to the stablized water temps. Really we are only talking maybe a 10* drop in air temp for 24hrs or less. Nothing like in the spring when you get a 20* drop for 3 days to a week. That will effect fish becasue of the already cold water temps and have the urge to spawn. And I don't think the autumn fronts have the effect that the spring ones due but maybe slightly more than a cool day in the summer. In the fall the temps are stable but dropping slowly. But a good long cold rain can change that too. But again, not near like in the spring. Chief Grey Bear Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 They usually turn on right before a storm. Feeding before they have to find shelter from the rain? Why? They afraid of getting wet? fishinwrench Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 What effect do you think lightning/thunder has on fish location?
Old plug Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I think my favorite weather front is rain. You just about cannot keep me off the water. I always do real well in a steady light rain.I think mostly I fish harder because I believe in it. This morning when I was suppose to be on my way to Hermann to work on my daughters house I snuck out and nobody knew I was gone till they figured to look down at the dock. I caught a19 " LMB over 4 lbs. and another 17" that was close to 4 lbs in just a couple of hours. Of course I caught some other stuff when I got in. But what can I say you. You have to feed the addiction. .
Al Agnew Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I agree with most everything that's been said. I will say, however, that big, deep reservoirs seem to be most affected by fronts, small lakes are less affected, and rivers are the least affected. But there really is no predicting what the fish will do, because sometimes they go against the grain, so to speak. Some of the best fishing I've ever had has been just before a strong front hits, but at other times, with just as strong a front, the fishing was nothing special. I've had some bad days after a front, but good ones, too. All in all I prefer stable weather conditions, though.

Old plug Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I have been down on my dock numerous time during periods of thunder and lightning. The bluegills carp and other thing seem to just go on about there business. On LOZ there is plenty of noise going on. I think they ate accustom to it. I have to say on a different lake it may be different.
Members Tearin Up Topwater Posted August 6, 2013 Author Members Posted August 6, 2013 Well, fronts didn't mean much this past Saturday. It was more a matter of figuring out what the fish were doing. When the hot sun went down the bass went on the prowl, to ambush bluegill in a couple spots where they gather. I was able to suspend a lizard just above they weeds if it dropped right infront of them they'd nail it! Here's a few
