Jerry Rapp Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Palaniuk sealed the deal, and a ticket to the CLASSIC. Good for him. Here's a photo from today. Why the different markings? He was fishing the same general area in Lake Ontario. Male vs. Female, different genetics. Are smallie markings differences this extreme around here?
Quillback Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Congrats to Palaniuk, pretty impressive win. The last few smallies I've caught on TR had the coloration of the one on the right. More of a solid brown color than the spotted variety on the left. Not as big, however
Jerry Rapp Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 the few I have caught in my lifetime were brown, not loaded with black spots.
Quillback Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 I was just looking at the total weights, Palaniuk averaged 22 lbs. per day, 88 lbs. for the tourney. Pretty impressive smallie fishery those Yankees have. Wish it was closer to here.

I would almost guarantee one of them has been riding in his live well for awhile and one is a fresh fish. They change colors when you put them in the live well.

Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to average a 4 1/4lb smallie around here? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
