Gavin Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Fun day with friends at their new place at Lake Perry...about 10 miles west of Perryville off of T Hwy...Spent most of the day swimming and tubing on the pontoon boat. Guess its around 200 acres of water, deep, and very clear. Lots of submerged weed beds. I didn't fish at all but our girls (two 4year olds, and two 6 year olds) had a ball catching green sunfish...1/2 of a 3" senko threaded on an unweighted circle hook did the trick...cast it out...let it sink to the top of the weeds and reel it back slow. Every color worked, but pink was the best....Any bass in that lake?...If so what works for them?
fishinwrench Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Bass? Yeah. Redear? Check. Wait.....Hybrid Stripers?!!! Wonder when it was last stocked? They'll be a hard sell if it's real clear though. Might be awesome immediately after a frog strangler. Is it a strip pit or a dammed holler? (Is it "hollow" or "holler"? I'm a hick )
Gavin Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Think that's a different lake FW. This one is a bit west of Silver Lake and private. Looks like most prefer boating to fishing. It's created by a dam on a tributary of Saline creek. Spring fed to some extent.
fishinwrench Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 This isn't the one? http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Applications/MOATLAS/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=6701

Gavin Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Yes different lake...its the one to the west...No public access. Maybe 2 boats out skiing at a time on the main stem...20 pontoons in the no wake south arm...swimming & such...plenty of space...nobody fishing..
fishinwrench Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Well there's obviously something wrong with those people. I'd keep a close eye on 'em. They aint right.
Haris122 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Anyone ever actually try out the Perry County Community Lake that wrench talked about? I went there recently with some friends, and even though they had a boat that allowed us access to all parts of the lake, I couldn't catch crap. Literally like 6 or 7 hours out there, and I got nothing, and they did barely any better, all of which were small fish, so it wasn't just my usual underachieving while others caught a bunch. It was funny, the MDC report mentioned crappies to be overpopulated and stunted, encouraging people to keep the max of 30 if they can, yet here we were spending all day barely getting 1/10th of that limit between the 3 of us (ok, 2 of them, and me in other words since I got nothing). Still a fun trip and learning experience, nonetheless. Just wish I'd have caught at least one.
jdmidwest Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 The Crappie are overpopulated and stunted and I fill the livewell and toss them into the local pond. The bluegill are great in the spring, catfish have been good lately. There are striped bass, few and far between. Largemouth are there but you need to go deep to get them. This time of year and without any rains for the last month, it has been stagnant and fishing poor. You seldom see many people there, even on a holiday weekend. But the fish are there. Be extremely careful running a motor in the lake. You can be running in 22 ft of water and nail a tree hiding in what looks like open water. Loads of standing timber, shallow flats, and the MDC aerates the lake. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Haris122 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yeah, we had a few near misses with the barely submerged tree stumps in the deeper ends and stuff, and once we actually went right over one. But thankfully we were heeding the no wake speed thing, and it didn't buck us too bad or tear/scrape the hull much. It definitely seems like a well constructed lake. Nice brush piles, nice cover with the occasional group of stumps, and other vegetation and features. Just we could for the life of us, not catch a break. They got 2 small largemouths, and 1 medium sized bluegill or redear, probably the biggest catch of the day. I caught my fair share of stickbass. Just could not believe how poorly the pickings turned out to be on such a nicely constructed lake. Though we didn't stay much past dark to see what results would come from catfishing.
