If you had $300 to spend on a spinning rod combo, what would you buy?

Do you put $200 on the rod and $100 on the reel,

or split it 150/150?

I'm in the market for a premium combo for shaky heads and ned rigs and wanted some advice.

This is the time of year fishing stuff goes on sale and people sell their personal stuff for the year.

Im looking at the Revo spinning reel from $100-$150.

Also, what's the deal with micro guides? they don't like braid to floro or any combination of floro.

Why buy a rod that only handles mono or braid only.

I've upgraded some of my fishing stuff in the last couple of years, i'm really big on a quality rod these days. I never realized the sensitivity in some of the better rods. I've never spent 200 bucks on one, but recently spent 120 on a St. Croix, awesome rod, love falcons to. I've got two spinning combos, and both of them are the TFO rods that was on sale at Reeds, the Siusaki let everybody in on back in the winter, pretty good rods, not as sensitive as my St Croix or Falcon bucoos, but nice. As far as a spinning reels, I have never looked farther than a flueger president, there may be better ones out there, but it's the best 50 bucks I can spend for fishing.

Never used micro guides, but supposedly they can increase casting accuracy, and lighten the weight of the rod some. They look good, I might consider trying them!

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

I'd split it fairly close to 50/50. Tackle Warehouse is having a 15 % off sale (on most things) and has free shipping on orders over $50.

Yes they are,

I've got some buzzbaits on backorder from last week.

Falcons and Revos might be the ticket.

Ducketts maybe

My new sahara is bad to the bone. only complaint:

No freaking spare spool .

Why not?

I would buy another but I need spare spools

Also,

I'm hunting a 7ft baitcaster for cranking wiggle warts this fall.

Any ideas?

In the spinning rig world, I'd say up to $250 on a rod and $50 on a reel. Light tackle, light line, clear ozarks lakes, the more sensitive your spinning rig is the better. It's an eggbeater, you aren't going to see a huge difference in casting like you do with better baitcasters. Spinning reels hold line. Get one that is ok at holding line, has a decent drag, and spend the $$ on the rod.

Now if it was a baitcast reel, I'd be much more into 50/50 as Ham said because the reel matters a lot more to the overall fishing performance.

Just my $.02
