Feathers and Fins
I was talking to an old friend and we got on the subject of Monster Battles. Only one fish came to both our minds. The might Jack Crevalle! We have both caught many tarpon and Snook permit and bones even had a 23 day son sailfish. But when it comes to massive pure brute force and power nothing beats a 40lb jack hel bent to leave the Florida coast for the Bahamas. If you guys ever get a chance to go for the monster jacks do it. So whats your favorite powerhouse fish? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Al Agnew
Call me weird, but I don't really enjoy epic battles with big powerful fish all that much. The biggest attraction to fishing for me is foling the fish and getting them to take a lure. Once I have them hooked, I'd just as soon get them in so I can hook another one. Plus, I don't enjoy saltwater that much, even though there are fish in saltwater that are far more powerful for their weight than anything in freshwater. Fishing enjoyment to me is partly in the settings, which is why I like river fishing better than lake fishing. People often say that smallmouth bass are as game as anything in freshwater, but as much as I love them, there are stronger freshwater fish, and faster ones, and ones with more stamina. So I guess that, of all the freshwater river fish I've caught, I'd have to say that big wild Alaskan rainbows are my favorite "monster battle" fish. Justin Spencer
Saltwater takes time to learn to love, once you do there is nothing better. Love those jacks, and little tunny are pretty fun to get into as well. LittleRedFisherman
Smallmouth just has to be my favorite hands down to catch.. However, as far as the best freshwater fight I've had, it would have to Bowfin or Grinnel as some call them. Nothing but a big fin, with lots of muscle. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing! fishinwrench
I have to have diversity. I go through phases with different species and alternate randomly. I love them all but it's like pulling teeth to get me to go chase smallies (for example) when I'm on a white bass kick. Or to go chase whites when I'm going through a trout phase. I've never been even the least bit interested in anything salty simply because it's out of my reach and I'd never be able to do it long enough or often enough to "phase" it. Terrierman
Salt? Tuna. Freshwater? Smallmouth and goggle eye both have special places in my heart.
Bird Watcher
10-15# Hybrids eat my lunch with regularity. It never ceases to amaze me. Time after time I reach a point where I doubt I'm going to get them landed on 20# and a 7' MH rod. I usually do eventually, I just never think I'm going to. 20#+ Blues will wear me out. I winch and crank on them and they never seem to move. I'd love to get a few 25# stripers caught, but Scott will never let me know when they are biting. I'd love to catch some Amberjack, 35+ Bull reds, Jack Crevalle, etc. and will someday, but I haven't yet. I've only been Salt fishing twice, both times on party boats. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, just not exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to get down to POC in fall over the next few years and see what that's all about. I think it will be just the ticket.
Feathers and Fins
I will not only tell you but take you out to get them and if you are real nice a few birds while we are at it lol. AJ's are fun but usually when im on them a cobia swimming past me gets my attention and I loose interest fast. My eyes glaze over my mind starts seeing a grill and I go bat crap crazy and when its all over I ask the All Mighty why he has to put both those fish in the same spot. Same problem when Im Permit fishing wrecks and a stupid Dolphin shows up. Saltwater can be very frustrating when the good eaters come by. Kinda like when I go after striper and walleye get on my mind. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
