buckcreekmike Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Bluebasser, I'm pretty sure the lake you are at with those two smallies is the same one I caught a smallie over 6lbs at about 8-10 years ago.

dblades Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I thought that might be Milford from the CPAA I fished there a few years back.
Moswimb8slinger Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I did some research and found the threadfin shad to be native to the Rock. Anyone have any info on our local baitfish, size, type, etc? Gizzard shad I've seen upwards 15" long, bluegill, longear sunfish, black and white crappie, chubs, shiners, northern hog suckers, etc. Unlike some impoundments/reservoirs, our areas lakes literally have a buffet of prey
Old plug Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I think the bautfish are small species of other things like blue gill.
Moswimb8slinger Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Pretty much i consider anything that a Largemouth bass can fit in it's mouth a baitfish.lol
abkeenan Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Pretty much i consider anything that a Largemouth bass can fit in it's mouth a baitfish.lol x 2. Bait fish is anything a fish will eat...bluegill, sunfish, perch, small bass, shad....they are all bait to the predator/bigger fish.
Old plug Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 while it is true bass will eat any fish they have a very big preferance for Shad. As the populations of shad demish on the lakes other type come become more popular. A heavy population of shad can affect fishing at. times. In spite of what some people think you are never really fooling a fish that some lure is a shad. The smell and everything else about them makes them unique. At times I will use small fresh caught shad a couple inches long in conjunction with spoons. That is just about as sure a thing for catching anything down there as you can get. Then again if you have a high concentration of shad as we have had last year the bass fishing with a artificial lure is effected.
