I recently moved and have my tying stuff unpacked. I love sitting down and tying a fly or two an evening while winding down and watching some t.v. This is a great strategy for filling boxes of flies, however it gives me a bit of an odd selection, and a lot of times it will be a few different flies, and I find myself on the water with a hot fly, and only one of them.

Oh well. Smallmouth have the brain going.

I thought that was how is was supposed to be done. I have the same issues.

I actually sit down and tie a bunch of the same fly at the same time.  I have a "storage case" with individual bins for different fly's and sizes.  the only issue with this method is it can be kind of boring after a dozen or so, but it does give me a nice inventory so I can avoid an all night binge tying session before a trip. That used to always plague me.

Now if I could just find time to fish I could actually use some of them.

I always ( usually, sometimes, try to ) tie at least 2 of everything and shoot for 4. anything other than stupid easy stuff and i get bored many more than that.

Tying in bunches may work for some people. Too monotonous for me at the vice, and makes it not fun, and that's what it's all about right? I get more enjoyment out of catching fish on more, and different flies all the time instead of ALWAYS playing the numbers game.
