I had to laugh at the statement "First time in history", after 17 someone should study up on American politics. The debilitation of the sequester is still fresh in everyone's mind and I hope we don't have people jumping from windows like in the 20's?

It's a dang shame that every tax paying "citizen" won't stay at home and not spend a single dime for a day or two EVERYTIME some $#!t like this goes down.

Id' love to see the result of that.

Turn off their lights, build a twig fire in the back yard and heat up leftovers or thaw out some game. Use no electricity, use no fuel.....and buy nothing.

That would be frikken amazing! Hell I'm gonna do it just for fun :)

The government tells us to save for a rainy day, yet they can't last a minute without borrowing a paycheck. :D Then they blame us and send us to the corner without any government services. It's kind of funny when you think about it, especially given the fact that after the smoke has cleared everything will be the same.

Who is there to collect Federal Taxes now?? Did they shut them down and declare a Federal Tax Holiday since there is nothing to spend it on?

Not spending money won't hurt them. The shutdown did not phase Wall Street today. The only ones that hurt when you stop spending money is private business. Government just raises the tax rate to increase their income if they don't have enough to spend. Or they print more of it. That is why we are here today, no Fiscal Responsibility. Some are trying to make the Government become Fiscally Responsible and they are being made out as the bad guys.

Never been for term limits before in my life but I am now. One term. In and out. Back to work. Lobbyists have no audience. Mechanics, engineers, electricians, landscapers, business owners large and small, housewives, the gal stocking shelves, and the guy cleaning teeth... One term, back home. REPRESENTing was cool a long time ago. Davy Crockett was a congressman! Get your name on the ballot.

Agree 100%, 1, four year term for all offices including president.

I would rather see something along the lines of one term for all but the house and allow them 2 terms. The quick turn over in the house is suppose to be advantages in reflecting constitutes needs and I would be afraid they wouldn't have time to be effective in one 2 year term. The offset terms and length of senators was thought to offer an advantage in passing laws. Along with it they should all be prevented from giving themselves immunity from any law they pass. What is missing today is the responsibilities of the two houses. The founders wanted the laws to be the senates responsibility while the house took care of the check book. then the terms would better reflect the needs of the people, but instead they have both gone to multiple terms and want to do the others job.

I used to agree... thinking that they couldn't get anything done in 1 term. NOW i don't want them to get anything done! Haven't liked much of anything they've "accomplished." These several thousand page bills are absolutely ludicrous. If you can't get it summarized on one 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, the government has no business in it! No riders, etc. One page, one bill, vote it up or down and go home back to your real job. OK, no more politics from me... back to wishin' I was fishin'!

Here is what gets me, Obamacare is what has forced this issue ok we all get that and we all know the poll numbers show how much the American people didn't want it and it was shoved down our throats, We all get it. But there was and is a solution to it not one politicians has brought up...... Bear with me this post isn't just about another tax..... Ok the STATES have the right to Add Amendments to the constitution. The states could have put in an amendment to strip Obamacare out. The states can also place in a few amendments to set TERM LIMITS, PAY FOR CONGRESS AND FORCE THEM TO ABIDE BY LAWS THEY MAKE. Yes States have the power but never have used it. WHY NOT? Answer is no politicians would ever want the PEOPLE to make the laws it does not serve their interest in fact forces them to do what WE want.
