Agree to spend the time during that period in having a serious committee of both sides of the legislature, equal numbers on both sides, looking at ways of changing and improving it, fixing problems, with the mandate that they GET THE JOB DONE well before the extended deadlines come up. The Democrats pick the Republican members of the committee, the Republicans pick the Democratic members. Everything they talk about, everything they decide, everybody they listen to in making their decisions, will be a matter of public record. Let the people decide whether or not they are making a serious effort.

Agree that it's the law of the land, and there will be no more attempts to repeal it UNTIL and UNLESS those attempts are assured of passing both houses with a specific amount of bi-partisan support.

Yep I'm all for fixing the ACA, because it needs it. And the reality of the situation is that the ACA is the law and we're stuck with it for now so let's make it work.

But from what I'm seeing the latest bills coming out of the House to end the budget shutdown are not proposing to end the ACA, or defund it.

And the current lack of agreement on the shutdown is equally the responsibility of Democrats as much as Republicans. This whole "It's all the Republican's fault" argument being used by some is contributing to the rancor and not helping to get to a resolution. The Democrats could help end this shutdown by agreeing to some minor concessions and granting those moderate Republicans something they could sell to their base. As long as the Dems continue this hard line no negotiating stance this thing is going to drag on. The whole thing is becoming a struggle to see who "wins" and it's as much attributable to Tea Party Republicans as it is to Obama.

The bottom line is, IMO, the ACA is seriously flawed and needs to be replaced, but the need for affordable health care has now been set in stone. The promise has been made, just need enough honesty in DC for all interest to set down and take the time to draft a bill with a lot of professional input.

The jockeying to declare a political winner is rapidly resulting in nothing but losers, some innocent and some deserving.

I guess the checks and balances are working, I disagree with how it is being done but it is within their right to do so. I guess time will tell where pubic opinion stands on who's to blame and maybe the power will shift. Throughout history one party has often controlled congress, and another the Presidency, but now when that happens nothing gets done. When one party controls both they seem to mess up, regardless of which side is in power, both sides need to learn to compromise or our once successful capalistic society will continue to degrade.

My problem is the willingness to shut down the government for a reason that has little to do with the matter at hand. BOTH sides are willing to sacrifice the good of the American people so they can make a political stand and come out looking strong. That's the reality.

I have feelings on which side may be to blame more than the other, but it doesn't matter, really. The point is, the aims of the people in Washington by and large have nothing to do with serving their country. That's a problem, and come election day I hope that a whole lot of incumbents are voted out.

Ok Larson I will name the one and only program they run and haven't screwed up. THE FEDERAL DUCK STAMP! Hey even a blind squirrel finds a nut every so often

I stand corrected. There is one.

Thanks F&F, thats about what I figured was that its a scarey label slapped on something that, at least as to the ramps, campgrounds, etc, doesnt really change much.

Larry, truth be told they shut the parks down ( lock the bathrooms ) ( turn off the water ) and final mowing for the year at the end of the month. Basically the only winter shut down service is trash emptied and lights on at night. So nothing changes during the shutdown that wouldn't be happening in winter closure.

Larson, I don't mean to change subject but it is the one program from day one has done what it was suppose to and I buy extra stamps every year. I have been privileged to be to many of the NWR's and can honestly say going to them with an open mind you will never be disappointed. I wish Duck Commander would do a show dedicated to the stamp to get more people to buy it.

So, this thread has gone waaaay out in left field( no pun intended), and came back full circle to a bit of a wildlife discussion. Impressive!
