I had the opportunity to fish TN Rivers again this weekend. I have added that state to my arsenal of Annual Fishing Permits. I don't know what it is about the state, but smallies grow there good. In lakes and rivers.

It is a little over a 5 hour drive and a jet boat makes it nice for fishing.

We arrived at the ramp and was in the water around 2:30 Sat. Run up the river past canoes and jon boats loaded with fishermen. Got past them all and starting fishing their back water. My first fish of the day was a small 10 incher, but it inhaled the large tube jig down so far I could barely reach it with my finger. Gotta love the the muscles in the throat of a fish contracting on your finger while you are down in there trying to get the hook out.

The rest of the evening was good, picked up some nice ones after 4 but no bigun's. Best fish was a 19" one caught by my buddy. Mine was only 18". Several were 16 or better with around 40 into the boat.

Water was falling from a big rain that rose the river last weekend and it was off color. I really would like to hit it when it is clear and you can see the structure. That is when the fishing is the best.

One big drum on a tube jig, put up a good fight too.

Its funny, those drum seem to like those tube jigs we use down there. We always catch at least one a trip. Last trip to Pickwick a month ago, I hooked one about twice the size of that one, put up a nice fight.

Wait a minute, "no bigun's, 19" "only 18". I want to go fishing where you go cause those are bigun's in my book. Thanks for the report and giving me yet another place I must go fishing for Smallmouth.

20" fish or better are usually caught. 4 or 5 lb smallies on the lake have been caught by my buddies down there. I always seem to hit it during a slow time or with goofy weather. Spring of the year prespawn is a great time.
