moguy1973 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Anyone want to speculate where Mizzou will now be ranked? Being undefeated, and just beating the #7 team, I think they should be ranked in the top 10. But my guess is they'll land just outside the top ten, I'm speculating #12.. 15-18th -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Guest Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 I'm happy for Mizzou, at least I can cheer for a rival team. My razorbacks just don't have all the pieces yet. You boys beat Georgia at home on the 1st try. That's really hard to pull off. I know Franklins injury suck, but yall have a bunch of other talented players. Good luck and win the East!
stlfisher Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Yeah looks like franklin injury will keep him out the rest of the year if reports are accurate.
Quillback Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Yeah looks like franklin injury will keep him out the rest of the year if reports are accurete. That stinks, let's hope Mauk can get 'er done.
Ham Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Great win for Mizzou! It is fair to note that Georgia was without several of their key offensive players, but Mizzou had lots of injuries last year. You played and beat the team Ga put on the field. Great Win. Georgia was not the same as it had been prior to injuries so the pollsters will look at that. Yes its wrong 100% as they are unbeaten and should be placed with the other unbeaten first then strength of schedule second. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ozark trout fisher Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 There is no way to know what happens now. Mauk could step up and keep the offense going without any major hitches. He is, in theory, the same type of QB as Franklin, with some solid throwing skills to go with potentially great dual threat capabilities. I don't doubt his talent. But he's a redshirt freshman, making his first start in the SEC against one of the best defenses in the country (Florida.) It's a stacked deck. With that said, Florida is on a backup QB too, so it's hard to complain too much. Our defense and running game can keep us right there especially at home. It will still come to Mauk to make a couple big plays, but we can win without him being as good as James Franklin. Even against the Floridas and South Carolinas of the world. Neither are world beaters, honestly. Outside of qb, Mizzou is much better than either one. And Mizzou is likely better than UF at QB even now....... I think Missouri splits that pair. Would have guessed a sweep after Georgia with Franklin, but I think inexperience at QB costs us one while Mauk steps up in the other. Given the good start, you'd have to think the crowd will be out in force and make a major impact in favor of the Tigers. Then I think we beat UT and UK before losing our final two @Ole Miss (second road start for a freshman in a very tough environment) and to A&M (don't know if we can outduel Manziel without Franklin.) So, 9-3 is what I'll go with now, with it in the back of my mind that 8-4 would entirely acceptable and worthy of celebrating given the injury to Franklin. All I REALLY ask is that we get by UT and UK, and hopefully get Franklin back for one more go-round in the bowl game. Notice that he is out six weeks approximately. If it's a New Year's Day game as it likely would be at this point, that could be plenty of time. Not that it matters so much to us whether we beat Northwestern in the Gator Bowl or whatever, but I sure bet it matters to Franklin to get one more chance to lead his team that he brought to 6-0.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Georgia was not the same as it had been prior to injuries so the pollsters will look at that. Yes its wrong 100% as they are unbeaten and should be placed with the other unbeaten first then strength of schedule second. I agree, but it's still bs and another reason computers would do a better job. They would only look at GA's record and rightly so because the pollsters have no idea what the strength of GA is at this point any more than they will know Mizzou's next week. We all know if they penalize Mizzou for GA's problems and GA then goes on to win and they won't look back, It will be ancient history to them. Human polls suck, always have and always will, but now we have a better source and they should use it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 I have no problem with #14 in the polls given the loss of Franklin. It seems about right. Only thing that would have been upsetting is if Georgia was ranked ahead, but they are at #15. Right now, I just want to see if we can keep our head above water and get by Florida. We are underdogs in that game and it's gonna be tough. I plan to be there and I hope there is a great crowd. This team needs all the help it can get if we are still gonna make a run at the SEC title.
Al Agnew Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 No way to predict how Mauk will do. He's still got the weapons...an o-line that can give him more protection than Berkstresser had last year as the back-up qb, a pile of excellent receivers, and a very good trio of running backs. He can throw the ball, and he can run. Question is, can he read defenses and can he remain poised when the going gets tough. It's not going to be easy given Florida's defense, but given Florida's lack of offense, it may not take more than 21 points to win. I look for some simplifying of the offensive play calls, and an emphasis on the running game, but I hope they don't get too conservative. Unless he turns out to be a big bust, they should beat UK and UT for sure and hopefully take at least one out of the other four games. I'll take 8-4 or 9-3. And who knows...remember when Chase Daniel came in for an injured Brad Smith and did pretty well. If Mauk is the projected qb next year, he would need to get better over the off-season and pre-season. He's just going to get on the job training, and should get better as this season goes along. It sure would be nice to pull out a win against Florida, and if they can, they might just surprise SC, too...and if that happens, and Mauk keeps improving, they could conceivably run the table. On the other hand, if Mauk can't cut it, they could end up 6-6 or 7-5...but hey, I predicted 7-5 before the season started.
