Feathers and Fins Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Went out to Beaver the last two days and its loooooooooooooooaded with ducks. Im going through withdrawl bad enough without seeing that stuff. Anyway to get my mind off I retied 14 dozen decoys today and it didn't help because when I got done I was like ( damit now im ready to kill them ) This is frustrating, its wonderfully cold, birds are here and I want to kill them and eat them and call them dinner. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Jerry Rapp Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 well, you could go out and get them before the poachers do.
BilletHead Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 It's a long time until Thanksgiving for us Scott. I drove by a favorite pond yesterday and there was over fifty mixed ducks on there. I glassed them and there was a nice bull canvasback in the middle. I told the Mrs. and she said you got to be kidding? I gave her the binoculars and she exclaimed Crap! hahahahaa I know how you feel about waiting. I bought three dozen used mixed decoys looking for a project. They had been left out all season and were faded so sure I will paint them. Went to home depot in Joplin today and got paint to start. Oh boy I think I could of bought them new and saved money, maybe The decoy mix included life sized widgeons, ringnecks, blue bills, a couple of pintails and some oversized redheads. We are now sleeping on the porch for the winter. Been hearing specks every night each time I wake up. This compounds the desire to start water fowling. The dreams a guy can have between speck flocks. Had seared teal on the charcoal grill yesterday too. Not sure if it helped or made things worse? mhowerton Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Had two groups of specs. fly over the house on Friday. Got the fever started. Headed to South Dakota on November 6th to start my season.
luckycraft Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Just got back from Montana, and the migration is in full effect up there. I haven't seen so many tundra swans in my life. Sand hill cranes were flying out by the thousands. Seems like when the cranes are migrating, the duck hunting is good. Spent all week hunting ducks in the morning and geese at night. Mostly puddler ducks but did have a sweet night feild hunting mallards. It was a great week. Got it out of my system for awhile, but looking forward to the Thanksgiving opener
moodyfour Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Finished up putting brush on the blind and setting out the rest of our decoys today... Probably 250 ducks on the water as we arrived. Teal, Gadwall, and Shovelors for sure.... Could have been others... Hope they stay around for another 6 days or so.
