Terrierman Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Get a plastic boat now and you won't be sorry. Also don't sweat taking your kids, just make them wear a life jacket. You can always walk a boat through any tough spots.
Justin Spencer Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 My kids have been kayaking on their own since they were 7, they wear life jackets and as long as there aren't any strainers they pretty much just bouce off anything they encounter without much trouble. While not great for fishing by themselves, get a kid in their own kayak and they will want to go to the river everyday! ColdWaterFshr Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I'll echo what the others have said. You gotta use common sense and respect the water. I started taking my kids on safer stretches of river from about the time they were 3 or 4. Here's my daughter, 9, on the Jacks Fork this past spring.
