Ham Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Hey Bret, hopefully, we'll fish together and I'll show you first hand. I'm using light action rods with 6 and 8 lb Nanofil. No stretch and abrasion resistant like braid but throws at least as well as mono. I also have a rod with 4 lb P line CX premium. There are times that mono still has a place. I always use a leader with my Nanofil. I think the highly visible line would bother the trout plus I don't want to use Nanofil on reities. I caught a boat load of trout on 6 lb line and I'm sure 8 lb would catch plenty but 4 lb is favored by most. I love fluro on baitxasters, but I have no interest in fluro on spinning. Every fish was on a Zig Jig. I used three colors and caught fish on all of them. I used 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz jigs. I lost three jigs total. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. I'm trying to get geared up for the trip, living here in the delta, most of this stuff I need has to be ordered for trout fishing... Really looking forward to meeting and fishing with you, sounds like you got it going on with the trout and this technique!! I have decent spinning rods at best for this techiniqe, I've put most of what I can spend on higher end stuff in my casting rods. I got one light action TFO that is probably what I will bring, the other one that med/light, might be two heavy to cast those jigs. I've almost ordered a crossfire, but seems pricy for an IM6, but hear good things. If I was to look at another rod, is an extra fast tip what you'd recommend? Thanks for the info, Bret!! LittleRedFisherman Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 My buddies and I fished minimum flow out of Buffalo City yesterday. Was great for wading and not all bad for boating. Getting up buffalo shoal wasn't too bad but as usual the mile or two of ledge rock above are a bear. If you don't mind picking your way through the boulders slow enough that you'll slide over without too much damage you will have some darn fine wading water and the scenery is second to none. You might even find some fish that have fins and color. Good luck Wish you could make it down for the trip!! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
hoglaw Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 Muddy, I would not attempt to float the norfork in a big boat with no water running. It may be doable, but a lot of work. I can run my jet from the dam to mcclellans shoal and wade from there. That's the best spot anyway. I could run it all on plane if I wanted, but the crowds of waders by the dam make that too dangerous. So I have to drag once or twice just below the dam.

It's not like I try to do the pop and drop with the zig jig. I'm thinking about bringing the kayak just in case, probably will stick with the boat since guys may count on a boat to fish out of. I looked today at an accuweather forecast 2 weeks out, according to it may be in the upper 30's, but they change it so often not putting much weight on that yet.. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
