Feathers and Fins Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I'll make my prediction. Auburn wins by 9. I am a fan of Gus and have been lucky to see him coach a long time he is a winner and always seems to find a way to win and his team believes and that goes a very long way. Mental game is 90% and they have it going on. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
snap Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 after reading this entire thread, it makes me think some of you have forgotten that bama is finished for the year......auburn and mizzou have one game left. If mizzou wins, they leap frog bama (for beating another ranked opponent......computer for sure) and if ohio state loses to michigan state, the winner of the sec title game plays in the NC game!!! Bama will get a better bowl than the loser of the SEC title game due to only one loss.....
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Can't argue with that snap. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Poll voters could do something unexpected and make it work out differently, but that's the most likely set of scenarios.
Jerry Rapp Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 as I have always said, an 8 team playoff would eliminate 98% all this fuss. A 16 team playoff would eliminate all of it. Boo hoo you say, these student/athletes might have to play 2 more games. Give me a break. We all know this about the mighty dollar, so just do it right.
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 A 16 team playoff would eliminate all of it. Now you know that ain't true. The farther you get from the top the more options. If the poll today was only undefeated teams, we might, I repeat, we might have a game. I still contend that in the absence of anyway to separate all the teams perfectly, a set of computer programs based on nothing but strength of schedule with a tie breaker based on something solid, like points between a teams scores and the opposition. You can't put man in the equation and have a fair and unbiased result. When the new committee takes over it will eventually run into a conflict of interest and then the house will fall. They should have gone with a committee of FCS athletic directors to start with, but the didn't, they had to have some with an interest involved for the sake of controversy I suppose. Terrierman Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'm just glad MU won. Second year in the SEC and playing for the championship will not hurt the recruiting. Featuring DGB against A&M was a good move for that. Give Pinkel some credit for what he thinks about down the road. GO M.U. Tigers!
Al Agnew Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I don't think a 16 team play-off makes much sense. No way the 16th ranked team is a national championship caliber team, ever. Probably the 8th ranked team is hardly ever national championship caliber, but I could see an 8 team play-off. But really I'm okay with the four team play-off, even though if they started the play-off now Mizzou would be left out. I like the idea of basing it on computer rankings that include strength of schedule, but they should also include a slight weighting of the "quality" of the win or loss based upon whether it was home or away, and also the point spread...except, don't go past 21 points on the point spread. I wouldn't want to see everybody playing their starters the whole game and running up 50 point wins. A three touchdown win is as good as a four or six touchdown win, it means you dominated that team.
ozark trout fisher Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 16 may be too many. You're getting into teams that have 2-3 losses or 1 loss teams with very weak schedules at that point. I think 8 would be fine. Your top 8 in the standings are FSU, OSU, Auburn, Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Stanford, and South Carolina. Those are all good teams that belong, IMO. Any of those teams could have a legitimate chance to take the title. At 16, you would include 3 loss LSU, an Oregon team that got blown out by Arizona, and then both UCF and Northern Illinois. So 8 seems about right to me. Plus, to me, 4 post season games is way too much of a burden to put on college athletes. You cannot put a couple of college teams through an NFL length season and expect the injuries not to skyrocket. Not right. Really, as much as I'd love 8 teams for football reasons, you could make a great argument to keep at 4 based on the injury issue.
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I think the 4 team is realistic, but again not the set up of the "committee". I don't mind Rice as much as I do the clear conflict of interest of the athletic directors! I realize they made some effort to spread it around, but that will not stop favoritism, or even come close. I think they should have selected FCS people to make the selection. There would be little to no conflict and you would have real football savvy people making the decision. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
