When it comes to snakes I pretty much let my guard down a bit in sub-freezing temps while bushwacking though the woods. Maybe too much. Over thanksgiving weekend I was fishing the Current and was surprised to see a snake swimming next to the opposite bank. The low temp that morning was 21 and the temp at the time was maybe 28. I guess the water was his warmest option.

While cutting wood one winter I came across a big bullfrog, he was under a log but definitely above the frost line and fairly high up on a ridge 300+ yards from the closest ditch or any kind of water source. I picked him up just to see if he was alive....and he was, then put him back in his little depression and laid the log back on top of him. That blew my mind.

Well yeah! :) A single pair of frog legs would only arouse my appetite.....

After telling that story I got to thinking it could be possible that he (or another) was wintering there again, so I grabbed my phone (camera) and walked up and looked under that log.....Guess what ???!!!

No frog :(

But while I'm looking my phone rings....

"Hello"

Girlfriend: What are ya doing?

"Looking for a frog"

G/F: Hu? :?

"Nevermind. Whaddaya want?"

:D

Major Duck Dynasty moment.

My buddy found a monster copperhead last week, right before the snow.

It was bedding under his firewood pile.

That snake would've been introduced to Mr. Hatchet.

Major earthquake coming...

Animal Warnings

People reported strange behavior by animals before the earthquakes. They were nervous and excited. Domestic animals became wild, and wild animals became tame. Snakes came out of the ground from hibernation. Flocks of ducks and geese landed near people.

Be careful what you say, because the tale of one snake can change the future of all mankind. It's like deja vu all over again. :D

Let's hope this one keeps his mouth shut.

I believe in the earthquake theory. We had a Siberian Husky when we were living in Oregon and if you know anything about them you know they can be very vocal. Our husky started into a 24 hour almost constant vocalization at different levels and then quit. We found at later there was a noticeable earthquake during that period in the Portland area, about 125 miles or so away.

Our other animals might have been acting up also and we just didn't notice, but with the husky it was easy to detect.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
