motoman Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I've always read over the years, of guys singing the praises of the Rio's and Rio Rico's; but couldn't pull the trigger on a popper at over $20 a piece. But, Tacklewarehouse has some with cosmetic Blems and no hooks for over half off. (Buy three or more and they're $8.33 a piece) The colors have dwindled over the past few days; but they still have some left. Just thought I'd share for anyone interested. I sure bought a few to give them a try. - http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lobina_Rico_Blems/descpage-LRICOB.html - (And my apologies in advance Phil if this is inappropriate;-)
Old plug Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 That is plain ridiculous. It looks like a popper R to me.
motoman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 I'm with yah old plug; but that's like the Yellow Magics at basspro($18+) and other fancy poppers guys sing the praises about. I think a few of our well respected guides have posted their love of the Yellow Magics?......... Hype can only get a product so far. So there must be something to them? - Keep in mind, the strike king RC stix and megabass visions look like regular ole jerkbaits; by their internal weights are WAY different than the jerkbaits from the days of old.
abkeenan Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The internal weight casting systems were a game changer in the crank/jerk industry. I don't know how anyone nowadays can throw anything that doesn't have it. You can throw more accurately, in wind and maybe the biggest factor WAY WAY WAY further. On deep divers and jerk baits having that casting distance is key.
gabe Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I've used them for quite some time. Great spitting action, great hooks and feather on tail. Try a few and I think you will be sold.
Old plug Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 You will never sell me on a plug that cost s much as those things. I can do just as well with a Popper R.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 14, 2013 Root Admin Posted December 14, 2013 (And my apologies in advance Phil if this is inappropriate;-) No way... no worries.
*T* Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Well, you know OP, folks spend their money on all kinds of crazy things. I'm happy to spend a few extra bucks on a bait that, if nothing else, I have a bit more confidence in, or at least have the anticipation of possibly finding the magic bullet. I know I don't hold back buying best bullets or broadheads for deer hunting. Just the way some folks are. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
RSBreth Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I'd rather buy a Zell Pop at regular retail. Best popper I've ever used - ( well, except my own flyrod poppers, which are better).
