Old plug......I understand the rod tip to floor demo but what I'm asking is why on some rods there isn't some sort of labeling indicating the gravite content (so to speak ) or the sensitivity "factor". What you are describing is the action or flex of the rod which is important in how you plan on using it or what you're throwing. Does to me anyway. But I find it equally important that a rods gravite and/or composition content is such that I feel everything I can when fishing on the bottom or jigging. Doesn't matter as much on a crank ing type bait where they are more likely to hook themselves. Just my own thoughts.

On the graphite content thing, most likely because there isn't a real hard and fast industry standard. Some of it is science, but there's a lot of smoke and mirror stuff too. I share your frustration and I wish buying a great fishing rod did not involve so much trial and error. Especially the error part. I've made lots of rod purchasing errors.

I've made a few too Ham. Hard putting your money down then getting to the lake and not liking what the rod is or isnt doing.

Two ways to check sensitivity in store is (this is going to sound weird) is to put the tip on someones throat and then have them talk or hum. You can or should feel the vibrations coming down the blank to your hand. This is odd but what are brothers for when you take them to the store? The second way that might not get such strange looks is to tie a piece of fishing line (1-2 ft) to the tip eye and then just flick then have someone flick the line. Other than those two ways I don't know of any besides actually using them on the water. If I were buying a rod today and I was on a $100 budget I would probably take a hard look at the 13 Fishing Omen. Quality components, great reviews and looks cool also if that matters to you.

This is the model I would probably go with that would suit the most applications for a spinning rig:

Went to that link abk. Gotta lot of stuff for sure. Do you have one of these rods ?

I don't. But if I were buying tomorrow I would buy that Omen I posted above. I have heard NOTHING but GREAT reviews on the 13 Fishing rods.

I have only used a 13 brand rod once and it was borrowed casting rod so I can't say personally how their spinning rods are - but I did buy a Garcia Vendetta this year - the 7' 4" medium spinning - very nice for a 75 buck workhorse rod. Now it's my favorite 1/8-ounce finesse jig rod.

I been looking at the Vendetta in the catalogs. Not sure yet. The one i tried in Wall Mart that was rated medium was a bit softer than I would like when it comes to dock control. Who knows what I will windup with in a spinning rod. I also like those that use metal rings on the reel seats on spinning rods. I will have to feel everything on the rack.

I have 7 ft ugly stik bait caster that I have never seen another one like. It was called lite pro. The rod has10 guides with the tiptop, no clear tip. It is MH. I use 12 lb test on it and use it 100% for flipping and pitching docks. I bought it at BPS and when I did there were only two left on the rack this one and one other like it.
