Alex Heitman Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 We got on the water this morning at 8 and tried the jerkbait and a-rig first thing. After 2 hours with only 1 big smallmouth on the a rig, I pulled up to a flat and picked up a wiggle wart. First cast bang. 18 inch LM. Fish was no deeper than 5 ft. The rest of the day we caught around 20. All really shallow. Only a few shorts with the others being nice quality keepers. All three species too. Lost a big LM right at the boat probably 5+ lbs. Had the boat no deeper than 15ft for the whole day. Most of the fish came off flats. Really surprised me with all the deep fish talked about. They were just hammering the crank and couldn't move off the bank to look for deep fish. I did find a massive school of fish that I'm going after tomorrow right when I was headed in for the day. Good luck guys
Bigmo Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Alex, congrats on the shallow bite. It is a pleasant surprise this time of year when the shallow bite happens. If I get out tomorrow i'm going to hit some of my favorite shallow banks first. What was the water temp in your area? I had a shallow bite going on around Thanksgiving but water temps went down and so did the bite.
abkeenan Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Alex this report means nothing with out coordinates.
Quillback Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 He was in Aunts creek. Good deal Alex, glad you found them on the Wart.
Members tom bell Posted December 20, 2013 Members Posted December 20, 2013 Way to go Alex! I'm still learning the lake.
Sprint21fter Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Tom, this is one of the most challenging lakes to learn. It can change every 30 minutes or you can run a pattern that lasts for 4 months IF conditions are stable. Always keep an open mind when fishing Table Rock or other upland lakes. Don't be afraid to fish shallower than what you think is shallow or vice versa. Table Rock is like a woman, you can't understand them 90% of the time and the rest of the time you have to bust you butt to make her happy and she then will be good to you.
crazy4fishin Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 "the rest of the time you have to bust you butt to make her happy and she then will be good to you." Is this a tested formula? For women that is? Most of the time I get "well this is fine....but" That is why I fish Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Alex Heitman Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 Yeah guys I was in aunts creek. haha. I actually spent a lot of time in Beardsley Branch up on flats and points. Just looked for the flats that had stumps on them and focused on those areas. Went into little indian as well and did the same thing. Could get nothing going on the jerk. Caught all of them on the wiggle wart.
