Thanks had work for them yesterday!

I agree on the docks, I guess what floors me the most is that this guy deer on hunts down there. .

He is a hunter and should know the laws and rights. Now the other house not so sure they never came out.

The deputy was nice and was doing his job of responding to a call, he did say he much rather be hunting with us than doing this today

Maybe we all need to ban together one day and go educate the houses with fliers explains the rights and laws of both parties involved.

Knowing both those deputies I'm sure they would of rather been.

Mike it wont matter if we inform them I have done it several times. I guess maybe getting together with LEO, ACE and State DNR would be a step go from there to see how to deal with these property owners to have the authorities inform them of the law and penalty for them breaking it. I have had run-ins with dock owners while fishing and even just relaxing in a cove. Something needs to be done about this issue and until the authorities start punishing the land owners it will continue.

I really am at the point I will force the issue to get the citation written if possible. I swear I see one more dock owner yelling at a dad with his kids in a boat fishing near a dock I don't know what I will do.

MK was hunting about 1/2 mile up lake from me. I could see the ducks dumping in on him. I almost went to that spot. It was my second choice for hunting that morning. Lots of hunters were out and my 1st choice was open. To bad it was not the ducks 1st choice to be that morning. I did watch 2 anglers for about an hour in a boat absolutely crushing it with an A rig along the bluff across from me that morning. They were catching bass on just about every cast for almost an hour straight.

Strange….no one harassed them?????

Might be good to call all this to the attention of the local press. Let them do a feature story on it and put it in the paper for everyone to see, including the land owners. It'd be good public education.

That's a great idea Phil who would we contact down there.

Yea the deputy's are famous I was pretty riled up too, but everyone cooled off and all was good on the end of it. What's funny is that that spot was my second choice as we were about 10 minutes late and saw a boat go in my first choice. I was shocked to see all the ducks dumping in on that we had on us.

Oh and my brother is the law dog that was hunting with me:)0

Good hunt and thanks for the post Michael. I feel for you guys that have to hunt urban at times and not rural. You all do have the benefit of open water when I am froze up. What keeps me going right now is getting to hear everyone's reports. I am lucky enough to have farmers who are friends and neighbors that call and say birds here or birds there go get them. Don't want them on there fields. I keep pretty good tabs on the fowl but it doesn't hurt to get the kill them please call once and a while. When they see me hunting of hear shots I get the opposite response you guys get. I get calls from them saying how many did you get and what were they? Fight the good fight hunting brothers. There is just people that have no clue or understand what we do. Phil has a stellar idea on how to inform the public,

If this helps for you guys, this is how I do it on Beaver Lake. It is applicable to anyplace I hunt.

#1. Find out the legal distance required to be from a Home, Business, Road or Occupied structure.

.( For instance in Arkansas the legal distance is 150 yards from a residence with a gun or 50 yards with a bow )

#2. Find out the legal requirements for where you hunt such as Private, State or Public Property.

.( If you are on Private property you must have permission )

#3. If there is a legal requirement for distance use google earth to map the area and draw out using the path tool the legal range. Then go verify it with a range finder this satisfies ( due diligence )

#4. Have on you or at your access the legal requirements by the City, County, State and even Federal agency if any on you so if you are contacted you can prove your legal right to be there.

Now here is how the information works. Using Beaver Lake again as an example.

  1. It is Army Corps Property and Hunting is allowed on it during legal season.
  2. It is in Arkansas and thus falls under AGFC guidelines for distance
  3. In this lakes case I do not use a house for my 150 yard rule I use the Army Corps Line plus 150 yards if a house is nearby . By doing this there cannot be any doubt of legal distance.
  4. When contact I have presented the officer with the legal documentation and map. Typically they are cordial and just following up on the call.

That typically protects you as the legal resource user. I am however in the future going to request the office to notify the caller as to the legal activity and to inform them any further calls will result in me filing a hunter harassment complaint. Maybe it’s time to for lake users to be proactive instead of just putting up with these people.
