I am heading down there tomorrow. i have never been there I am wondering about some if these post about the price being different at the check out counter. Is that something i will have to check closely about.

We have an Academy in the area. As far as fishing stuff, it's the last place I ever go to. Prices are nothing special, not much selection in a lot of areas, not much high end stuff, etc. More of a stick and ball store, IMO.

I hadn't heard of or experienced the different pricing issue. But probably worth checking.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Academy. It's no Cabela's or Bass Pro, but they do carry a multitude of items. And their prices are very comparable with anyone's. They also carry their own line of rods reels and fishing tackle that are of high standards.

I have never had an issue with pricing. They are scanners at the Inn of the aisles were you can scanty prize so that you will know what it is before you get to the counter if you have a question.

And the employees appear to be somewhat knowledgeable in the areas that they work.

They also have a great return policy if you're unsatisfied or due to product malfunction.

I like the one in Springfield, better selection than Wal-Mart and better prices than Bass Pro. I've never had a problem with them and I'm sure if there was a pricing issue it has been taken care of.

Was at the Springfield store last Friday. The only priceing issue I have ever encountered. The tag on the shelf said "new lower price" 11.90 on some wool socks. At the register they came up 16, I questioned it, they price checked the department "they had just went off sale" but they gave me the lower price since the tag was still up?????? There prices on Thoro and Smart Wool socks better than others. Their Plano water proof guide boxes much lower than Bass Pro. So I say, go but keep an eye out for not updated scans???

I did encounter a soft gun case that was listed on the shelf for 11, but at the register it rang up for 15. Whatever. I'm made of money like that so 4 dollars didn't kill me and I was putting 600 dollars worth of gun in it.

Other than that, I've never had a problem with them. I'm glad they are in the area of Joplin since Southtown didn't rebuild after the Tornado. Most of my specialty stuff still comes off the WWW, but Academy will suprise you with some of the stuff they have tucked away on their shelves at times.

Wife and I went into the one in Springfield this summer to buy a canopy that was on sale for 149. It rang up for 49.99. I informed them that it was about 100 bucks off from what the sticker on the shelf said. The checkout person asked if it was 100 high or low and I told her low. She shrugged her shoulders and said I guess it's your day then.

As far as what they carry in the store I don't think its fair to judge the entire chain on one experience in one part of the country. I was in a Store in San Antonio a couple years ago and their stock was completely different from the one in Springfield. I was actually less impressed with the store in TX as far as the fishing/hunting departments go. It seemed like it catered to more of the golfing and other sporting goods.

I think it depends on the store, the Academy here in Rodgers is so-so as far as inventory. Better than Wally World for sure. Prices are good if they have what you are looking for. Good selection of sneakers that's usually what will get me to make the 25 mile drive.

I been there and back wife bought a pair of real nice sneakers I bought a salt water type fishing hat. With a large bill and neck shade. Not cheap but very light weight and will help stop some of these skin cancers I have removed every year. Did not buy any rods or reels, but did buy some small stuff like tools and some made up flies that I bought to fish with wrench this spring. Has been years since I touched a fly rod. I am suppose to go up there to his place and have a refresher. I might surprise him. Best thing I found down there was they had Johnson spite spoons for I think it was $2.69 each. That is cheap. I is one of my favorite jigging spoons. Over all it is not a bad place.
