aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Any tips on making it work worth a crap...it has DI but it doesnt show anything ever, i can throw an A-rig under it and see nothing, Sonar never hardly shows anything either....I have a Garmin 550 in the front and i can see my 4lb line all the way to my jig....I just dont feel like it is working correctly, i have watched you tube vids and set all the setting to a real general setting that people say work great and read all kinds of forums with people talking about settings, ive tried everything....It was on the boat when i got it, so im wondering if there could be any issues with how it was installed, i feel like the install has to be the issue....I have friends with the cheaper DI humminbirds and i was very impressed....about ready to scrap it for a Lowrance .......Any pointers would be great
Ham Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Have you called Hummin Bird and talked to them? Very likely, something is wrong with the unit or the transducer. You should be seeing something. Does the regular sonar give you decent information? DI is not my favorite, but it is another functional way of looking at structure. My DI and SI seem to show HARD objects much better that soft stuff like fish or thin brush, but I might need a new transducer myself. Don House and J.E.Van Natta are two guys that are local and know the Hummin Bird stuff inside and out. Maybe one of them will see this thread and chime in on it. Seth Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Down imaging is only effective when the boat is moving. It uses a thin, wide beam for imaging instead of a cone like traditional 2d. For licking up lures in 2D, you need to use switchfire max mode and not clear. Clear makes the screen look cleaner, but it also hides a lot of useful data. It's possible that you have hardware trouble but most of the time, it's the user not knowing how to properly setup a unit.
