Mitch f Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Cabin fever has set in so bad.....especially after last nights train wreck called the Grammy's....... So I started thinking about warmer weather and the top water bite. Do you guys take off the feather on the rear trebles of your top waters? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Flysmallie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Do you guys take off the feather on the rear trebles of your top waters? No. I like it. Â Â
Quillback Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I use a Gunfish quite a bit and it comes with a feathered treb. Works well, and when the feathers get torn up, I replace with another feathered treble. I have some Yozuri, small, 4" pencil poppers that don't come with a feathered treble, and they work quite well at times also.
Mitch f Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Funny you guys mentioned the Gunfish...that's specifically the lure I had in mind. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I retie some. I really like marabou and even though it can tend to tangle it doesn't seem to hurt hookups and it still gives some action. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 A bulky dressed rear treble on a Wiggle wart is a killer! And I think it improves any jigging spoon. I don't like them on suspending jerkbaits though.
Quillback Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Hmmmm, dressed treble on a Wart - I like that idea..
fishinwrench Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Hmmmm, dressed treble on a Wart - I like that idea.. A few feathers won't do it, but a big wad of squirrel tail or bucktail really gives the wart a new life.
MOsmallies Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I experimented adding a feathered treble to several walking baits last year and I liked it on some but not others. I need to give it more of a try out this year. I wouldn't fish a popper without a feathered treble, but I'm still not fully sold on walking baits, and prop baits. More testing will be done this year. Never have tried it on a crankbait or jerkbait (Besides the X-Rap). I also couldn't find a stock feathered treble that I like, so I started tying my own.
Mitch f Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 A bulky dressed rear treble on a Wiggle wart is a killer! Yep, the feathers don't work on the front hook of the Wart, like other lures. The front hook seems to be the pivot point and the feathers would just stays still......but I gotta try the rear hook thing! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
