I made some weedless stand-up jigs and got to thinking about weedguard options. The forked plastic guards collapse easier than most fiber guards and are one option.

Another option might be to leave the guard out and fill the the hole with a sponge-like material. Before fishing the sponge could be soaked in craw oil or other attractant.

What do you think?

They look good, I've never used those do it plastic weed guards, but I like the thin wire guards they make. Good idea on the scent!

I use Chomper stand ups when fishing ozark streams. They don't have as flat a bottom as the ones you've got pictured and I prefer the single wire weedguard.

This makes me feel really "dirty word" old. Still have a box of rubber jigs with the old Y guard.

Danger...have found those heads will tend to go pointy nose first into rocks and remain there. They are awesome for fishing sparse grass up north.

You might look at a wire guard, be it single or twin.

If you like the chomped stand ups. Try the Bite Me jigs standup. I'm not a fan of the plastic on their wire. It melts when I powder coat them, but overall they are great.

I like the way they look, but I can see dtrs point about the pointy head.

That is a good point. No pun intended (well maybe a little). These may only be useful on pea gavel. The plastic "Y" guards are old school and that is what I intended to put on them, but the scent sponge idea has me intrigued.

I'm thinking spawning banks with a hula grub and the craw oil "sponge"? Or a plastic swimbait and shad oil?

Back to the Skunkworks to find something that will hold and release the scent slowly.

DC...I have the Do IT non-weedless mold for that head, 1/8 and 1/4's. With a little work and a dremel you can widen that nose out a bit on the smaller cavity and retain some of the stand up effect. Ends up around 5/16-3/8oz depending on how it is done. The neat thing is being able to run flat eye Mustads in it with little if any modification.
