We had 10 -12" of blowing snow here in Kansas City yesterday. Today's high was 11 degrees here and they predict -10 degrees in the morning and temps close to "0" for the next week.

It's hard to imagine how tough life was 100-200 years ago with winter's like this one.

It's a wonder the pioneers lived long enough to make the mistake of settling here. Bet a lot of them regretted that first winter.

I spent most of my youth in north Missouri and we always had lots of snow, but it never got cold unless you broke through the ice.

I don't know how cold it got, but we would build fires on creek ice sometimes when the ice got thick enough.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Well...last night it got down to -28, with wind chills up to -56! Coming across the pass between Bozeman and Livingston at 7:30 PM tonight, it was as low as -26, but was a comfy -9 when we got to the house. The Weather Channel forecast keeps calling for a low of -3 tonight, even though at the same time it's giving the current temperature at -14. Figure that one out.

Al, they use the same formula our government does for unemployment numbers to calculate the wind chill temp. But any waterfowler knows that already as we have been dealing with that "new math" for years when it comes to them predicting waterfowl numbers.
