Sore Thumbs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I might be a little off kilter boys. I have nothing better to do than buy stuff online cuz those fish just aren't biting right now. I have wanted that color of jerkbait ever since I saw it a few years ago. By golly I pulled the trigger. I might be a fool but I can gaurantee you if I catch em on it. I will be on here posting picks. If I don't. I lost it or something like that. Lol
cnr Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I'm a big fan of the McSticks, great action and 1/2 the cost of megabass. I haven't fished the megabass lures though, too much $$ for me. The McStick is listed as 3'-5' depth range but I think they go a little deeper. There is a deeper diver option available but I have not used them.
buzzbaitr Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Just to be clear. I have owned 2 megabass jerkbaits in my life. I lost one last year at LOZ and the other one is the 110 original in megabasss sexy shad color. In one year I have caught over 100 bass off that lure and I dont fish that much. So I am pretty impressed with it but since I am a beginner I dont have very many other experiences or jerkbaits to compare it with. Thats why I appreciate the info about the mcsticks, I cringe at the $24 I would have to spend on another megabass but I know they work.
Quillback Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Catch a 100 bass on a lure makes it worth $24.
buzzbaitr Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 I agree quillback, I have learned you cant put a price tag on confidence in a bait either and I have a ton of confidence in that bait. I was thinking of buying another one and thats why I started the discussion. I havent really gotten a clear answer on origianl 110 or + 1. So whats your guys guess for mid march with this bad winter a little deeper jerkbait or just standard depth?
Old plug Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 If you like that lure use it as long as the bass are in its productive range. you use it you understand it. and having confidence in it is a lot of the reason you caught so many bas on it. Just do not get stuck on it. there is still jigs and other things that will have there time over the season. As far as mid March If your talking about Table Rock I do not know. But if your talking about LOZ mid March your going to get your best fishing following the rocky channel banks. thing is they can be either very shallow or deep so you have some choices. rogue type, shallow plastics like flukes, jigs, and Carolina rigs. Try them all.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I'm sure all jerkbaits work if properly used. I remember I was fishing a BFL at LOZ about 4yrs ago and people were goin crazy buying them from a guy who was selling them out of his truck. Being inexperienced at the time I felt like I was missing the boat if I didn't buy one. I have been using them ever since. I don't turn my nose up at any brand. If I hear they work. I'm gonna try em. I have heard a lot of great things about the Squirrel from Jackall. That will be my next jerkbait purchase.

But in the past, sometimes you find a few fish on a spot that eat the shallower bait like a 110, you can go back with a deeper bait and pick some more up. I like McRips and Pointer DD's and XD's.

Red is standard early-spring fare from Lake Ouachita near Hot Springs down to Toledo Bend and over across Texas. Should work up here. Might be good in the slightly stained waters of the river on Beaver or the Kings on TR. One of the best Beaver fishermen that you and I know throws a red one some.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 There is always the "throw something different factor" to consider as well. Might be good on a dark day, kind of like the subdued flash of the old gold/black back rogues. And in the end sometimes you just have to throw what you enjoy. Used to club fish with a guy who only threw buzz baits after March, just because he liked to make them run over and around stuff. Usually caught a few.
