Does anyone have a idea what the weight of a Triton Tr 186 & trailer weight would be without gear? I was thinking of buying a new SUV to tow it.

I'm guessing the motor weighs in at about 450# and the boat close to 1700 +-. I really don't have a clue about the trailer but you also have to figure in gasoline, batteries, trolling motor and gear. I'd say you are getting close to 2 tons.

If you are going to be down in the hills around Blue Eye then you will need some umph to get over the hills.

I would just make sure whatever SUV you get has a Tow Pkg. My wife's Chevy Trailblazer V6 has plenty of power to pull my z7/merc 150 4-stroke but doesn't have a tow/haul switch. And I'm sure like most boats, the tongue weight is less than 300lbs.

Most V6 SUV/Trucks will pull a boat like that, just don't worry about gas milage. What you need to look at is how big the breaks are. Usually stoping is the problem with that much weight in the back, unless your trailer has breaks. I had a V6 Dakota with my 97 Procraft 170 and no trailer breaks. The truck pulled fine, but once I needed to stop fairly fast and the boat ended pushing me a lot farther than I expected. Luckly for me the person in front of me got out of the way and there was no accident. I ended up trading that in for a full size truck shortly after. Now I have a 20' skeeter with trailer breaks and love it. Come to think about it, I may need to change my screen name.

My trailer does have disc brakes. One the SUV 's that I was looking at is the Santa Fe .My wife likes this one alot and I think they can pull up to 5000 lbs.! I konw the older models could pull that much weight. I am looking at the GMC Serra .

I used to have an 2005 Santa Fe and i have a Pro Craft 192 Super Pro which is probably the same weight as your boat. I couldnt imagine towing it with it. the front wheel drive until it slips is just awkward. I have a Nissan frontier now and it drinks the gas but tows okay. We moved my brothers sailboat trailer a couple miles once when we move that weighed prob 2000# and that was about it for the Santa Fe. It was the v6 Santa Fe. I think it had plenty of power, prob more than my Frontier but i dont think it towed near as friendly

you should be fine with the Sante Fe. I may be mistaken but I think the towing capacity is around 3500. You'll like towing with the GMC Sierra better.

I had a small SUV with a 4.3litre back in the 90's and towed a Stratos 19.5 F&S. I think the towing capacity was 4000lbs for this vehicle. It did fine, but I knew it was always back there. When I got a full size Truck, it towed so much better.

If you get the Sante Fe, I'd have them install a tranny cooler if there isn't one already.
