Members cjgentile13 Posted February 13, 2014 Members Posted February 13, 2014 Anybody know what this is? Caught him on the Big River on a 1/8oz marabou jig head. Think it might be a carp sucker of some sort but not positive.
J-Doc Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yep. Gizzard. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
J-Doc Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 In most lakes it's called "dinner" (if you're a predatory fish). If you're a striper, it's called "Candy" Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Ham Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Gizzard shad. I've only caught them on crappie jigs during the cold weather periods of the year. Maybe the lack oh plankton drives them to get aggressive. They stink. Slimey devils. Good catfish bait though. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Quillback Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Hard to tell how big it is, but unless that's a really small net, that's a heft gizzard shad. MO record is 1 lb. 6 oz. for a 'pole and line' caught gizzard.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Striper Candy for about a 40lb class striper https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members cjgentile13 Posted February 14, 2014 Author Members Posted February 14, 2014 Its a 20 inch net, too big to be a gizzard shad?

Quillback Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 The Arkansas record is 2 lb. 14 oz. If that's a 20 inch net, I'd guess that shad is close to 3 lbs.
