Quillback Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 While motoring up the White river channel yesterday morning, saw a flock of White Pelicans near Eagle Rock. First time I've seen them on TR.
J-Doc Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Seems like I saw a pelican up here in NWA. I was thinking......"Dude? You should have taken a different route because you are say too far from home" Not sure why a pelican would be this far from shore and in such a cold climate at that. It's winter, not summer. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Dutch Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 We've been seeing them at Pomme de Terre in the late fall for several years. I saw a few at Stockton early this winter but didn't think any would be around here this time of year.
Quillback Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 I'm no expert on birds by any means, so I did a search on White Pelicans - apparently they migrate through this area.
Old plug Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 they come thru LOZ every year but this year it is still frozen they migrate a but like ducks
Members derekburleson Posted February 17, 2014 Members Posted February 17, 2014 Stopped by Roaring River Saturday on the way to the lake and in the 5 minutes we were there stretching our legs, we watched a crane get a nice rainbow for lunch. He caught about as many as I did this weekend.
fishingaddiction Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 We had pelicans around the K city area of the lake last winter, but haven't seen any this year. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Football Head Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Fished the KC area today and saw a big flock of them. They were in heaven with all the dead and dying shad.
Old plug Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Do any of you get the swans Great big beautiful Trumpeters. I seen 6 here the other day in a small open spot that never never froze. The are really something. A few years ago the neighbors were feeding about 4 of them bread. After a few days they came back at daylight every day wanting to be fed. I cannot hear them but it must be some racket when they start in. My wife said it will wake you out of a dead sleep and we are a good 60 ft away in the other end of the house.
Moswimb8slinger Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I've seen them down at the trophy area on Taneycomo too. My brother was down there one day last year and called me about them. I went the next day and sure enough, there was a freakin pelican near the cable on the Dewey Short side.lol
