merc1997 Bo Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 i see almost everyone that has commented is throwing a snake tail worm. i use them some also. however, over the years, i have caught way more big bass on big worms that have either a twiddle type tail, or a straight tail such as the jelly worm or the old fliptail. just as with any type of soft plastic, you need to let the bass tell you which they prefer and keep and use several styles. i have many bassers sit in my boat, and the only type of worms they have are all snaky tail worms, and i am catching them right and left on a twiddle tail, they can not understand why they are not getting any bites. don't get caught up in using only one style of worm. bo
RSBreth Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I still like the the old Jelly Worm in grape. I use the smaller 6" ones all the time but plan on using the 12" this summer. My brother uses them in Kansas farm ponds for big ones and they do.
dblades Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I'm fond of the Lucky Strike Ringers, Sneaky Snakes and Baby Huey's.
dblades Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 the only time I ever remember my old try and trues didn't work was at a night tourney at Loz, maybe 15 years ago. My buddy had some red shad power worms with green flake. That was all they would bite. That night still mystifies me. Had a night like that on Table Rock once. They won't hit anything but my partners Tomato. Not black, black/ blue, brown, purple or anything else I had in the boat.
abkeenan Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 i looked them up they were about $7 for a pack of 10. i have never seen them.i would want to examine it pretty close. The ones I was talking about are $7 for ONE worm. They are like 20" long and weigh like 2 or 3 oz or something ridiculous. Tackle Warehouse used to have them on the website but it doesn't look like they carry them anymore. EDIT: I just looked them up and they are 19" straight tails and weigh 5oz. Oh my.
troutgnat Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 If your lucky enough to find the Zoom Ole Monster in the Avacado color.............kind of a mix between motor oil& green pumpkin with red and black flake in it. I will stop grinning now Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"

Maybe I should try some other style also after they let me down last season. It was very aggravating to watch those bass rise and just snub their noses at it. I just never gave a thought to changing the style of worm. I do use worms like the giant trick worms PBS sells on drop shot rigs and they were doing OK. You would think I would have put 2 and 2 together and tried a change. That was a serious mistake and something I should realized. But I think in hind site I was thinking it would have effected my presentation. You mentioned Flip Tails I loved that worm in it hay day. Last year a old friend I used to. fish with in S/E found a bag of them. in his basement. They were the 91/2 inch one in That color we used to call wine. I know they are between 40-45 yrs old. For the most part the plastic has not changed. Mmmmm. maybe I should offer them up for bidding as antique plastic worms. Still have your Jig its tied on and ready to go if I ever can get out on this thing.
