Looking for 2.5-7.5hp light weight cheap outboard for a canoe. Doesn't have to be pretty just functional.

There was a neat little 1.5 Evinrude on Craigslist SE Missouri the other day. Don't know it it is still there. Would be perfect.

I have a 14 ft lowe, with carpets, deck, 6 hp Johnson. early eighty's models, trailer. Motor just got carb cleaned out and running good from Scenic Rivers Boats and Motors. 12V MG troller, head indicator doesn't work, but foot control works fine. Trailer needs new bunks. It is a good stump jumper boat. Livewell in middle bench. I would like to trade it for a flat bed trailer, but would consider a reasonable cash offer. A good 6hp is worth a bit. You could take the jump stumper and do a little TLC care to it and make a buck off it after taking the motor off.

Having messed with motors on canoes a bit, couple of questions. Is it a square back or or you going to use one of those detachable motor mounts? Square back will handle most any, side mount sometimes a challenge. I had a 2 hp Mairner, great but no neutral. Got a 4 hp Mariner, neutral and reverse, too darn big on the side mount. Currently have a 3.3 mercury that does great. That said, a close friend has one of those 3 hp Evinrude folding motors, will need a fuel tank and line, that can be bought for $200, very good shape. IF you are interested I can get it hooked up and make sure it works properly.. but in my opinion too large for a side mount on canoe...
