dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Ned Kehde sent this link out on his FNN today. Nice piece on a different bait for the little rig. As noted, it is far from my favorite option. I have caught fish with it, but not at the rate of the cut Zinkerz. Seems like it should be the ideal bait to throw when fish are on shad, especially in shad colors, but the cut Zinkerz outfishes it for me, even in craw colors. Would be interesting to see how others fare with it. Cabelas, BPS, and TW have them (at least the KC area stores). http://www.in-fisherman.com/2014/03/12/z-mans-fishing-products-finesse-shadz/
Ham Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I was actually thinking about thst bait on a split shot rig, shakey head, or a drop shot. I've got my cut zero box ready. I may break out the Ned Rig at Toledo Bend. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

If you drop shot the elaztech it can be worth the time to punch a bait keeper tab over the hook point after nose hooking it. Something like a piece of a clear plastic cup, just to keep it rigged. That stuff will flat spit out a hook. For whatever reason it just is not my favorite on the little rig. Maybe someone else can make it go, thus the link. Versatile way to fish. Ned recently sent out a report on using the cut zero version at Taneycomo for trout. Not something I do, but apparently it works on slick fish too.
Guest Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I've been looking for a zman bait that can be wacky rigged on a drop shot. Maybe they will produce a 3" zinker z in the future. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing You can run the finesse worm that way on a drop shot, both the 4" and the 7". Think there is a 3" in the works, but that will cut into the value of the deal. I would love to see them make a fish doctor.
Old plug Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 there is one thing wrong with those z-Man baits if they ball up the hook will OFTEN not come through the plastic because of the stretch in it. Other than that they seem OK. i have only used them in the sinko style and after I used them awhile and caught a few fish on them they changed buoyancy. I do not know what caused that but I did not care for that.

I do not know what caused that but I did not care for that. Plug...the buoyancy changes as the salt leaves the bait and it begins to take up water. This only happens with the higher salt baits. For the little rig it is a good thing. Those of us who use it a lot have found the older and more worn bodies fish better, are softer, etc. If you fish one all day you can actually squeeze water out of the body like a sponge. If you are wacky rigging it is a pain. That is the one place I do not use the elaztech sticks. Very hard to get the fall right. Not a problem with the less salty animals. The zinkerz has the highest salt content, then the fattyz, and on down. Several baits do not have salt.

They would work well to keep the plastic where it belongs. http://www.basspro.com/Bait-Button-Dispenser-or-Refill/product/10226945/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&om_mmc=shopping_googleproductextensions&kpid=10226945%26adc=pg_315_11128_5282c130e4b006f67e95d707_36315096631
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Failed to address the "ball up" problem. Generally this does not happen if you "texpose" the hook, and are using something like a gamakatsu or owner. Mustads are touch to punch through unless left exposed, or barely covered with plastic after exiting the back of the bait. Have also experienced days when fish, especially K's, will grab the end of the full size stick and clamp down, never making it to the hook. You can actually land one that way on occasion. When they are doing this I see a lot of balled up plastic at the hook, but the tail will be covered in teeth marks.
