fishinwrench Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Gotcha, just never heard it called "army rec.", and since he was putting in there in order to fish the Northshore area it kinda threw me. I'd splash at Shawnee bend if'n it were me.
Old plug Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 If you live here goggle eyed and you never heard of a milk run your as deaf as I am. mjk ----It is system of running from one certain point to another point over several miles if lake. It can cover a lot of miles and burn a lot of expensive gas. I have done it.
mwfischer Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I'm staying at Ft. Wood Rec this weekend as well. Usually up there you don't have a ton of what I consider spring secondary points, though a few up close to the 54 bridge. I know the area well and will likely stay there especially with the forecast for Sunday, yuk, better locate fish is all I can say. Would still rather be on the boat than in this office.
Old plug Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I have never stayed there. But i was eligible. I hear it is a nice place. Army talked about shutting it down a few years ago.

Ill be in a cabin. White gmc pulling a red white and black ranger. I have fished the glaize arm quite a bit. Wanting new scenery down by the dam. I'd rather drive my truck to a closer ramp than drive my boat way down there. We will focus on crappie if we cand find them. I live near table rock so it's a great change of pace.
buckcreekmike Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Just got off the water for about 3 hours in buck creek...... Skunked. 40-42 degrees not as clear as I would have expected, maybe 3-4 foot visibility at the most with a brownish mud color to it. Used stick baits mainly and threw a jig every once in a while. Water is as low as I can remember seeing it in the last 6 years that we have had a place down here. The most disturbing thing was I couldn't even catch a crappie off of our dock which is extremely rare even in mid winter. Well there's always tomorrow.
Old plug Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 the problem with the tempearure is like i have never seen before either. I think that long period of thick ice left a very deep cold layer. sometime the water temperature around here gets to 43. If that wind starts up ot will drop back down very fast to 40 - 41. I think the waves bring up the colder water. i feel like it is going to take a long time are a real good heavy warm rain tto get it going. I heard today that they intend on keeping the lake this low until they clear all the iron from the bridge knock down on Hwy 5. THe outlook for the weekend sure does not look good.
fishinwrench Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 According to.the boys at American Bridge co. they have to "grind down" the old HD pillars to a height that is 6ft. below the lowest expected lake level (which is 649.0) . I dunno what kind of equipment they use to grind down reinforced concrete under water but I'm guessing it's gonna take awhile. I'm gonna be bummed if the extended low water level hoses up the White bass run this Spring. It takes a lake level of 657.5+ to put enough water over the flats for a decent migratory run.
