Yep Wayne... the BB tourney is such a grind-it-out event for these teams and especially for the favorites with all the pressure on them. Grant it in most cases a top team from a top conference wins it in the end by having a mid-major knock off an even bigger favorite that team didn't want to face (for instance the '88 Jayhawks). I'd guess that 80% of the time the team that wins it all would lose to the best team in the country 8 out of 10 times (or so says my old math teacher Yogi Berra).

SLU has to get passed Louisville in the second round...gonna be tough to win that game. Louisville should be better than a 4 seed.

I'd say Virginia has a chance...

SLU's first game won't be easy. If they go into the kind of shooting slump that they do fairly regularly they could lose to either NC State or Xavier. They've got a great defense, but they are scoring challenged and their margin for error isn't much.

Heart or brain? Do you want to win money or do you want go down fighting (cheering) for your team?

Florida will win.

Yup that would be Yogi's assessment, like he always said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it"

Yeah, it's pretty rare for the best team to win. Strangely, it has seemed to happen the past two seasons, though. I don't know that we have a clear best team, but Florida is the closest. I would argue that Louisville is the clear #2. So I hope we get that title game. I'll say again-how Louisville is a 4 and Kansas a 2 is beyond me. The Selection committee did a terrible job this year all around, honestly. They got everything from the seeding to the last team in dead wrong.

Leaving Mizzou out was about the only thing they got right. Though I'd argue that we actually have a better resume than NC State. Not that we should be in. But SMU has to be pissed off, and rightly so. The committee saw that late win over Syracuse and it overshadowed a really mediocre season for the Wolfpack. Based on everything else, I think Cal (who has a better win, just earlier on) Minnesota (same) and Green Bay (a victory over a 1 seed and a great record) all had a better argument. What happened to their statement on having no bias towards the last few game? The Wolfpack are a good, dangerous team, but they didn't do enough.
