dtrs5kprs Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I think I might take some scissors and "modify" some green punkin twin tail chompers? Or maybe even take a 4" or 5" grub and snip off about half the tail and split it. Not sure a beaver minus all the flappy bits wouldn't work. Or a speed craw/turbo craw. I have another craw in mind that is a little different, but it is a bear to find. Almost ordered some Saturday, but was trying to be good.
abkeenan Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I too have fished a biffle head, but now days I find a jikka rig hangs less but still allows the hook to free swing like the biffle. Plus, if you use a coast lock instead of a split ring, changing the weight size is easier. Guess I need to swim it sometimes. This makes the best jikka rig weight for a coastlock system: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Northland-reg-Roach-Rig-reg-Walker-Sinkers/1208846.uts?productVariantId=2805378&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03088462&rid=40&channel=GoogleBaseUSA&mr:trackingCode=28E43CE2-B076-E011-B343-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adType=pla_with_promotion&mr:ad=30640523471&mr:keyword&mr:match&mr:filter=57965685671&gclid=CM7S15D1zr0CFRQV7AodYW8Avw&gclsrc=aw.ds Thinking the same thing...Biffle Head is just sort of a variation of my beloved Jika. I have always just used the cheapo Gremlin bell weights from Wally World but those in that Cabela's link look great and I am sure work better since they are meant to be bottom bouncers/draggers for the walleye guys therefore are less prone to snagging.....shocking walleye geared mentality coming from you RPS. lol.

I am very partial to Netbait products because: 1) They have some really perfect bait styles and profiles 2) They have a fantastic array of colors to choose from 3) They have fantastic action 4) They're relatively cheap in comparison to other top brands That being said the Paca Craw should work just as good as that menace with a very similar profile and action. Lots of craws, creature baits and trailers that would work just the same.
Iclass Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Ordered some menace grubs last Friday from TW... Good thing, today all green pumpkin and watermelon colors are out/back order.
Quillback Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Just for grins, I went and checked out BPS, they too, are out of stock of the greenish colors.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Think the bait is maybe less important than the place and fish. Just watched video of a new Ned Rigger working them pretty hard yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozxn1f_b5ZQ&feature=youtu.be
fishingaddiction Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 the biffle hardhead has been a mainstay in my tackle box for 3 years. I actually stopped buying FB jigs in favor of the BBug Baby brush hogs or swimbaits will not catch a fish on there. not one (sarcasm) This has been my secret weapon I have been dragging the Pig Sticker "pig rig" around for several years, although mostly in the summer months. Have used baby brush hogs, 10" worms, and trick worms. Like trophy, they will not catch any fish. A lot of different craw style baits will work, but you had better be prepared to lose some as they get stuck in the chunk rock. Swimming them along the bottom might be the better deal, and would not hang up as much. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
balsabee Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 The Baby Rage Craw and the Menace grub both have the same shape for the craw portion. It's a high ridge on the end that causes it to pulsate through the water. I'll be giving them both a try.
Quillback Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I have used the Baby craw, Craw, and Lobster on a Carolina rig. There's times when they work well. Good jig trailers also.
kjackson Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 ...Mark said he was fishing it like a cranbait right on the bottom, and if it hit a rock he would shake it off but kept it moving and swimming at all times... I fished with Biffle last year, and he, too, fishes the Hardhead just like a crankbait, or at least, he did on that trip. His soft plastic is, gasp, the Larew Biffle Bug. He said that the combo "ruined" him. This particular bit of kit and technique is why I bought the mold and a new lead-melting furnace.
