dtrs5kprs Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Something else I learned - There's a lot of bass in TR. Got that right. Holy cats are we ever fortunate right now. Be careful with them.
eyedabassman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Not to cry and whine about the lake when I have a hard time catching fish!
MOBass Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Don't be afraid to experiment. I have thought about some of the stuff I saw the pros doing, but never pulled the trigger and tried it. Change from a curl tail grub to a swimbait type body and fish it shallower. Swim a bait like a jig/twintail. Overall I would say my big take away is there are fish shallower than i would have expected. I did see some areas I fish and the pros were doing the same thing I would do there, just a lot more efficiently and thorughly. I'll try to put some of this to use and see what I can get to work over the weekend.
Alex Heitman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 There are always fish shallow most of the time in my opinion. If they are deeper than 20 ft forget them is what I say ha
Sam Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I learned to keep my aluminum boat close to the bank and preferably among some stumps, because those guys with patches on their shirts come tearing by at about 70 mph while you're trying to fish. I mean, good golly - name me one other public resource (like the lake and the fish) that's allowed to be used and abused for a private big-money game like this. You know what they say about opinions - everybody's got one.
Fishin Hodge Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Evers was throwing a negotiator too, granted maybe 5% of the time on Sunday when I watched him. I looked it up and saw it was a bit on the pricey side for me. I too tried to be very respectful, but did speak with Edwin shortly about 3 times I felt were most opportune. I said man I'll probably just have to let you throw that negotiator, but are they awesome? He told me that a fish I saw him catch earlier in the day, was the only fish he'd ever caught on it and it was his first day to throw it. Not sure if Palinuk turned him on to it, or if Roman Made was making a big push at an event they thought their product may be a producer at, but that makes for at least two of the pros that threw that bait some during the event.
brother dave Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 never give up! I shop at the outdoor grocery store
Champ188 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I learned that Ducky can catch crappie smack dab in the middle of a BASS Elite Series derby.
glennL Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I'm a part time Table Rock fisherman, but think about it full time. I appreciate everyone's input on this web page. Maybe sometime i might actually get to add something. I had the opportunity to fish the cold weather, the days of the Elite tournament. I fished some of the same spots, that i saw boats on prior and after they fished. I only caught one or two. Blamed it on the cold wind and cold water. I even fished the same baits. What i did learn from watching the pro's and reading these reports is the following: 1. boat control is a must. I had a hard time keeping my boat from drifting fast down the shoreline, unless i had the trolling motor going full speed. 2. There are fish where i fished. If the reports of them catching sometimes 20-25 a day are true. I need to be more patient and fish slower and longer at each location. 3. Be sure to cover the entire fishing zone, before picking up and moving to another area. So, boat control, patience and fishing very slow will be the plan the next time down. Glenn
