Members swelbo1 Posted April 10, 2014 Members Posted April 10, 2014 What A-rig retriever do y'all recommend? I'm looking for the knocker type
Champ188 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 A knocker-style retriever isn't going to work. Won't ever get down to the hook to knock it loose. Best advice I have is use 65-pound braid and heads with light-wire hooks. When you hang up, don't jerk. Immediately troll to the far side of where you're hung and pull in the opposite direction that you were retrieving when you got hung up. Should pull right off nearly every time.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Ole Tim Horton advertises one on his show all the time. Looks like a golf ball retriever.
bluebasser86 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 As long as you didn't set the hooks hard into wood or get it wedged real bad, I've been able to get them unsnagged 100% of the time by just either going past them like champ said, or getting straight over top of them and gently lifting and dropping like getting a jigging spoon unsnagged.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Somebody does make one designed for rigs. Seems like Bass Tackle Depot had them.
blue79 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 you need at least a 50hp motor and 65lb braid and it will come right out
T-RockJaws Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hook Line and Sinker in Rogers AR has a retriever that I think they make there. It basically looks like 4 to 5 ounce weight and has a clip that goes on your line and on the other end it has a large treble hook with the barbs clipped off. You can run it down your line and use the trebles to grab the A Rig. Works every time, have not lost one all year. It also works very well with stick baits and crank baits.
Duck Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I swear by the Cabela Snagmaster. Used it 5 times today and got the A-rig back every time. Look it up, $12.00. Good fishin, Duck.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Found a link to the one I was thinking of, but in a moment lacking clarity, I posted it in the a-rig video thread. Oh well.
Members Dr.Hookenbetter Posted April 13, 2014 Members Posted April 13, 2014 I've been using the same plug knocker I use for cranks.. The bass pro one that looks like a Perch with chains . Just keep pounding on it and it will come loose 90% of the time . Only lost 2 this year!!
